Touch down, meet your host at the airport and head to the remote coastal town of Alta - found on the inner reaches of the Altafjord in Norway's most northern county. Settle into your unique Aurora Canvas Dome before meeting for a welcome briefing at 15:00. In the late afternoon, strap on a headtorch and hop on a fat bike for an otherworldly bike ride amidst the Arctic wilderness. Pedal through the snow-blanketed forest at night on a network of trails, with the collective glow of head torches lighting the way. Switch your light off to (hopefully!) watch the Northern Lights dancing above as you listen to stories about the local area. In the evening you can warm yourself up with a traditional Nordic sauna before a three-course meal of local delicacies. Settle in for the night beneath the stars in the Aurora Canvas Domes.

Wake up in your cosy Aurora Dome and get ready for your next Arctic adventure. Hop on board a snowmobile for a journey through one of Europe's last wildernesses, gliding your way through beautiful winter Arctic scenery from Sorrisniva, through the Alta Valley, all the way to the Finnmark Plateau. On the way back you'll stop at the wilderness lodge restaurant adjacent to the Igloo Hotel and tuck into lunch. Perhaps pay a visit to the ice hotel bar or watch the ice sculptors at work (optional, subject to availability). Later on, warm up with a serving of hearty soup before heading out to hunt for the aurora.

    Day 3

Snowshoeing, ice fishing, and dog sledding

    Snowshoeing

After breakfast clip on some snowshoes for a hike, heading to a wilderness camp through peaceful pine forests surrounded by high mountains. You'll reach the idyllic camp beside a small lake and warm up around an open fire inside a Lavvu - a Sami herdsmen’s tent. Have a go at catching some Arctic Char for lunch by fishing through an ice hole on the lake. Head back to the Aurora Domes for some downtime before venturing out dog sledding in the afternoon. Take in the stillness of the Arctic on a journey through the forest and open landscapes beside the Alta River, with beautiful Alaskan Huskies and a local musher for company. Back at base, savour another tasty three-course dinner.

Say goodbye to your cosy Aurora Dome and soak up the last of your time at the base in Alta with a short stroll or sauna, before joining the group transfer to Alta airport.

Detailed Logistics

Transfers

One fixed-time group transfer is included on Day 1 for the 15-minute drive to your host's base. The transfer will collect anyone waiting at Alta Airport at 14:30 and then go to Alta city centre to collect anyone waiting there at 14:45 on Day 1. There will be a welcome briefing at 15:00 at the base.

On the final day of your trip, your host will drop you off at Alta airport at approximately 12:30, in time for flights departing any time after 14:00. If you choose to book a flight departing before 14:00 you will need to take a taxi instead.

It is only a 15-minute drive from the airport to the base so if your flight arrival/departure time doesn't coincide with the group transfer time, you can simply take a taxi: this will cost approximately 400NOK (£35/€40/$50).

Return flights from Alta tend to depart in the early afternoon, and you only need to be at the airport 90 minutes before your flight since it is a small airport, so there is some time in the morning to soak up the last of the area at the base.

Travel options

There are no direct flights to Alta from the UK but connections are available from both Oslo and Tromsø. From Oslo, the flight time is just over 2 hours, while the flight time from Tromsø is 40 minutes.

Ultimate Arctic Circle Adventure in Norway, aurora domes

Alta

Stay

Alta

A real highlight of this trip is staying in the Aurora Canvas Domes. These are purpose-built aluminium and canvas domes, with under-floor heating and a wood-burning stove, designed to get you as close to nature as possible. You can even open the roof – perfect for aurora watching. All the electricity here is 100% renewable and drawn from hydro-electrical power, produced by the nearby Alta River. You'll stay in twin-share domes. Couples will therefore automatically have their own dome.

What You'll Eat

Breakfast consists of freshly baked rolls with locally sourced spreads and toppings, juice and fresh coffee. On your first and third evenings, you'll be treated to a three-course meal of local foods, including specialities such as fresh cod and halib…

Food and Dietary info

Breakfast consists of freshly baked rolls with locally sourced spreads and toppings, juice and fresh coffee. On your first and third evenings, you'll be treated to a three-course meal of local foods, including specialities such as fresh cod and halibut, salmon, moose, reindeer and king crab. Dinner on Day 2 is a simple affair of soup and bread. Lunch on Day 2 is a sumptuous feast at the Igloo Hotel in Sorrisnova, where the chefs create unique dishes using ingredients from Arctic Norway - including reindeer and moose from the tundra, seafood from the Alta River and the Norwegian sea, vegetables from local farms and berries picked in the nearby wilderness. Lunch on Day 3 will be a selection of local delicacies grilled by your host, hopefully including some Arctic Char which you have caught from the lake.

Vegans and vegetarians can be catered for on this trip, however, please request this at the time of booking.

Optional Extras

Upgrades

Due to the limited number of Aurora Domes, it is not possible to request a private room upgrade for this trip. Your host can arrange a single room at a nearby hotel if you would like to join the trip and have your own room - however, you'll be missing out on the Aurora Domes as one of the trip highlights in this instance.

To request any extras, message your host via your Much Better Adventures account once you have booked your trip.

All extras must be paid before your trip starts.

Trip level explained

Level 1

Easy

This trip is suitable for anyone with basic fitness levels. Although none of the activities are hugely demanding, and you'll never be exerting yourself for more than a couple of hours at a time, some activities require more physical effort than others. The fat biking is particularly influenced by the ground conditions and can be tiring in deeper snow. The trip is a busy one, with plenty to pack in, so you'll be regularly on the go - although, there is some downtime so that you can enjoy your base around the Aurora Dome as well. To get the most out of the trip you should enjoy being out in the cold during the winter and come prepared with adequate warm clothing - see the kit list for guidance. For each of the activities (dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and fat biking) you'll be provided with a thermal suit, winter over-boots, gloves and woollen socks to ensure you are plenty warm enough to enjoy each mini-adventure.

What will I need to carry?

You'll only need a small daypack during the daily activities. Your main luggage can be stored at your accommodation.

Climate Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where daytime temperatures can be extremely cold and consistently below freezing (0C/32F) during the times of year when this trip operates. Temperatures at night will likely be even colder. Personal care should be taken to keep as warm as possible in the conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing and proper hydration and nutrition. Very cold temperatures can impair an individual’s physical abilities to perform an activity that they may otherwise be able to do competently at warmer temperatures. In severe cold conditions people may experience symptoms associated with Exposure, Frostbite and Hypothermia. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with cold temperatures, by carefully managing the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

I loved everything about this trip. The activities were all incredible and the lodging was absolutely the coolest way to experience the Arctic. Staff was super chill and very kind/helpful.

  • Christie E.

Amazing how much rest and adventure this trip packs into just a few days! While there were a few hiccups—the triple igloo is jam-packed and one person ends up on a cot, the fat bikes only come in one size (RIP to the shorter girls), and it would be nice to have a dedicated guide throughout the weekend—these didn’t take away from the overall fun of snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing, and all the great food we shared. It was nice to go in March for the longer days and milder cold. However, to get the full snowy adventure, I definitely recommend going in January or February. This trip is a lot of fun and feels like much more than just a long weekend.

I’ve rated this review based on the trip itself, which was truly exceptional! I had the trip of a lifetime, especially due to such a wonderful group of people, who gelled really well together and were all so supportive and friendly, with the trip filled with lots of laughter! GLØD were great local hosts and the dome accommodation was fabulous. The little touches, including a morning coffee delivered to the dome and welcome fizz on arrival, also added to the experience. The dome is surprisingly spacious, heated and has its own toilet, and whilst the showers being in a separate building is a little bit inconvenient, this was not a big issue. The food overall was really good quality, especially the welcome dinner and the lunch provided whilst ice fishing, with only one day where the food was a bit hit and miss. The activities were amazing and what made this such an unforgettable trip; each one was well organised and truly memorable once in a lifetime experiences, especially the mushing/dog sledding and snowmobiling. The ice hotel was an enjoyable addition to the trip and we were also lucky enough to see the northern lights. However, I would highlight that there was only one night of ‘Aurora hunting’, which took place on our second night. Unfortunately, we were not lucky in seeing them, which left only one night to try again. Had this been arranged on the first night, it would have offered more opportunity to try and see the lights. As only one night of aurora hunting is included, some of us chose to pay for a further tour on the final night, and this was successful, finishing the trip on a high! Although I have given the trip itself 5 stars, the trip for me started on a disappointing low note, due to correspondence from MBA a few days before I was due to depart, advising that they had not booked enough domes for the group. There were suggestions that I could be provided with alternative accommodation across two locations, move to another trip or have a refund. After ongoing correspondence, the issue was resolved and the trip went ahead as planned, with a goodwill gesture provided by MBA, however, this added unnecessary stress to the trip, and took away a lot of the initial excitement in the days leading up to this. This is the second time I have encountered accommodation issues through MBA, and I do feel that this element of their trips does not feel particularly well organised or thought out, especially for solo travellers, and requires better attention. Whilst this does make me reticent about booking trips with MBA, both trips I have been on have been great whilst there, which has ultimately swayed me to give them another go, and resulted in the 5 star review for this trip itself!

Can't recommend this trip enough. The overall organisation was excellent and everything worked so well. All of the activities were fantastic, not too strenuous at all. A special shout out to Juliette on our ice fishing who was so enthusiastic and fun. Thermal oversuits and boots were provided for dog sledding and snowmobiles, you can easily wear 2-3 of your own layers underneath and you'll be very warm. Mittens, hats etc. are also provided if you want to use theirs or you forget your own. I was OK with waterproof hiking boots for the rest of the activities, plus insulated trousers and 3-4 upper body layers, although it was apparently unseasonably warm at around -2 while we were there (early March). Warm socks an absolute must, consider those thermal pouch things as well, particularly for northern lights viewing in the evening as there's a lot of standing around in the cold! 100% worth it though, the team were excellent at taking us to the right place to find clear skies and an excellent showing of the lights. The domes are really warm and comfortable. Consider bringing an eye mask as it can get bright quite early in the morning (went in March). The shower facilities in the main building are really good. Towels, hairdryer and even shampoo/conditioner were provided. Food was excellent and plentiful, allergies were known by the staff and taken into account. Note pretty much all meals had fish at some point, so if you're not a fan maybe let them know when booking so something else can be prepared. The ice hotel optional extra was c£30, and I thought it was worth it to see. There's some down time built into the itinerary so you can go for a walk around the base, visit Alta, use the sauna, read or just relax.

I mainly chose this trip because I wanted to stay in a glass dome (without a single supplement) and have fun activities in the day, plus a good location for seeing the Northern Lights. The accommodation was great - very cosy and I loved the touch of a hot drink brought to you in the morning. The beds were so comfortable, with electric blankets to keep you perfectly warm (the ensuite toilet/washroom was also warm, thankfully). The food was excellent. I enjoyed the activities more than I expected, especially the snow mobiles. Whilst the trip may appear expensive for 3 nights (well, it is Norway), when you price up the cost of doing the activities individually plus the domes/food etc. it's reasonably priced (unless you don't like the cold, in which case this trip is not for you). I wish I had taken baby wipes because there is only 1 private shower in the main building (plus gender separated shared showers by the sauna) and you can't be late for the activities, so it's easier to plan to shower during the day when there are breaks between activities (it worked out fine though). They have a hairdryer in the shared bathroom and plenty of towels.

Unforgettable trip with many first time experiences from dogsledding to fat tire biking to snowmobiling to snowshoeing, and, of course, seeing the aurora. We had an amazing, supportive group of people who laughed our way through all these new adventures. We all came to Norway to see the Northern Lights, but for most of us, by the time we left that wasn’t even the highlight of the trip. We made some friends for life through and incredible trip.

  • Robert P.

For anyone wanting to experience something exceptional this is a 'must do' trip. The combination of fun and unusual activities packed into 4 days was highly memorable. A particular stand out was the hands on experience of harnessing and driving (mushing) a dog sled as dusk was falling. Organisation, accommodation and catering were outstanding. Thank you Trigve and your highly capable team for a magical experience.

  • Juliet F.

The Arctic Domes are glamping in style, with a wood burning stove and very warm, even without the wood burner going. A bonus to get a nice hot drink brought to your dome at 8am before a delicious breakfast in the building at 8. 30am. Showers are in the main building, but no problem to walk the short distance for a shower. Food was excellent (fantastic chef). On our first night, as the sky was clear, the group went out to look for the aurora after dinner (success!). Juliette (at GLØD) was so helpful and prepared some thermos flasks for us to make a hot drink, which was so thoughtful. Every activity was something new that you would not get a chance to do at home; fat-biking, snowmobiling and husky sledging were so much fun, and the snowshoe walk to the ice-fishing with lunch there in the beautiful scenery was super too. Though an optional extra after the snowmobile, we would recommend paying to go into the ice hotel and downing a blue vodka shot! Warms you up and the ice hotel spectacular to see and so much fun (the ice slide!). It was a truly memorable holiday (with the added bonus of sharing with a fantastic group of fellow travellers) and we would highly recommend this trip.

Don’t hesitate just book it… one of the best experiences ever. The accommodation was so unique, the team in Norway have thought of everything and clearly love what they do. Jam packed with one fantastic adventure after another and great food to keep you going. Driving your own dogsled across a frozen lake in the dark has to be up there with one of my best life experiences

  • Janine O.

I just want to express my sincere thanks for what was truly an exceptional Arctic experience. Every part of the trip felt thoughtfully planned and beautifully delivered, from the Northern Lights to the huskies, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. We were wonderfully kept busy, and every activity felt meaningful and memorable. The accommodation was absolutely beautiful. I would even describe it as exquisite, and it made the whole experience feel both comfortable and special. A special thank you to everyone from GLØD for your effort, care, and professionalism. You helped create something that was not just a trip, but a life experience I will carry with me forever. Thank you again for making my time in the Arctic so unforgettable.

    Milind B. February 2026
It was great fun, all activities were very well organised and led by knowledgeable members of the local Glod team. Fat-biking, snowmobile over the arctic tundra and snow shoeing with ice-fishing were very good! For me aurora hunting was the best bit, and Niko explained the physics and led us into the night for an adventure- we managed to see the lights! Dog sledding was the final delightful activity which we thought was the best overall activity. I want to thank the entire team at Glod, Alta, for making this a trip to remember. Trygwe and team, very well done!

Just back from 3 days in Alta on the Ultimate Arctic Circle adventure with MBA / GLØD, and overall it was an amazing experience! The tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful if we needed anything. Food provided was excellent and of a very high quality. Highlights for me were snowmobiling and being lucky enough to see the Northern Lights with our guide Niko and dog sledding on our last night. Only downside for me was that there was a lot of down time between activities and there were no additional optional activities available during this free time. Having read other reviews I was aware that the showers were in the main building and was prepared for this and had some snacks with me as there were no shops close to our base. This trip was great and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get a taste of Norway.

Such a wonderful place to stay - beautiful and peaceful. All the activities were great - amazing sunrise-sunset views from snowmobiles, snow-showing through snow-covered forest, and seeing the aurora when we went biking. Delicious food, cosy domes and great guides.

Top draw all experiences. Exceeded expectations. Accommodation was very warm and comfortable, food very tasty. The guides were all very attentive and knowledgable. We were very lucky to see an amazing show of the northern lights all weekend(thanks Nico) even from our dome. Would highly recommend
  • Ultimate Satisfaction

    Mark R. January 2026
The Ultimate Arctic Circle Adventure in Noway did not disappoint. From the outset (when a participant WhatsApp group chat was created) to our final fairwells at the airport, we were fully satisfied. After being collected from the airport, my wife and I enjoyed settling in to this multi-adventure trip with the initial Fat-MTB ride through the snowy forest near our base location before our first delicious meal, sauna, and cosy night at the dome. We were fortunate to see fantastic Northern Lights displays every night. Yes, they were visible from the dome whilst we lay in our bed! Snow-shoeing, fishing, snow-mobiling, northern-lights hunting were all great adventures. However, the dog-sled adventure was my personal highlight. The guides were so engaging, allowing us to collect and harness our dogs (you can get as much help as you want for this) and were even allowed to 'drive' the sled (after some tuition). This was our first MBA-Adventure and we are already thinking about the next. Thank you 🙂
  • Fantastic Activities

    Joanne H. January 2026
The itinerary was packed with fantastic activities, like dog sledding, fat bike riding, snow shoeing. . . . and of course those Northern Lights!
  • Unforgettable! From the cozy pods,

    Maike F. January 2026
Unforgettable! From the cozy pods, the amazing food, the stunning northern lights, the incredible fat biking and dog sledding right down to the endless layers and snowsuits to survive the freezing temps, I cannot recommend this trip more!
  • Awareness for solo travellers

    Ed B. January 2026
Firstly, the GLØD team were excellent. The issue is that Much Better Adventurers do not clearly disclose anywhere that you will be SHARING a room with a stranger. Even after paying for the trip, there was only one general message referring to twin rooms. You will also find yourself spooning your new acquaintance on the back of a snowmobile (these are shared too) and you’ll be sharing a dog sled. This surprised both of us on the day, so beware if you were expecting some privacy and being able to engage in more than 50% of some of the experiences yourself when this is not a budget trip by any means. While this cheapened the experience, the rest of it was fantastic and well organised by the local team and their excellent guides.
  • Overall the experience was excellent.

    Oliver C. January 2026
Overall the experience was excellent. The tour guides were really knowledgeable. The individual experiences were really fun and unique. The scenery is stunning. It really is a memorable trip. However we felt the experience lacked a point person (ie a rep from better adventures) sometimes it felt like there was no one around. We should have been given clear options of additional activities available in downtime and also options for individuals to do activities solo. We also felt like there needed to be proper showers available for everyone there (there wasn't enough private showers, only 1) and the sauna should have been free to use whenever you wanted, rather than pay. The food was excellent, very very god quality and almost fine dining. However as the days were long and cold we feel like there should have been free snacks available.
  • Brilliant

    Adam B. March 2025
This was my first MBA trip, after reading the reviews on here I was going in with high expectations and was not disappointed. The balance between activities and downtime was spot on and even for a fussy eater the food was fantastic. Would highly recommend this trip.
  • Artic adventure in Norway

    Wendy S. March 2025
Just returned from the trip of a lifetime which was the 3 day arctic adventure to Alta, Norway. The GLOD team were amazing and all activities and tours were fabulous, the trip far exceeded my expectations and was so well run from start to finish. Already planning my next trip with MBA as a result
  • Incredible!

    Claire D. March 2025
This was the most amazing trip. We were really looked after at GLØD. The domes were exquisite, the guides experts, and all activities thoughtfully planned so it was jam packed without being rushed. I can honestly say it was everything and more than I hoped it would be. So many incredible memories made. . . . . including laying in bed and watching the Northern Lights dancing in the sky. And the food was fantastic too!
  • went hunting for northern lights and found so much more

    Maylian L. March 2025
Booked this trip as a way to see the northern lights. It turned into an epic bucket list adventure. Alta is beautiful. All the activities were great and very doable (I have never done any of them before hand), and all of our guides were great. Staying in the aurora domes was an amazing experience. All the meals included were delicious.

Took my partner for his 50th birthday. Had the time of our lives. The staff at Glod were incredible hosts. All the activities were fun, especially the dog sledding. Saw the northern lights twice, bucket list item ticked.
  • Fantastic adventure worth every penny

    Miguel M. March 2025
The trip was a fantastic adventure with many first experiences for us. From the absolutely stunning northern lights (we were very lucky), to the dog sleeding, the fat bikes and the snow walk. One of our best trips ever, amazingly hosted.

FAQs

Fat bikes have extra fat, knobbly tyres that are designed for riding on soft surfaces like sand and snow, and they have little or no suspension. The super-fat tyres distribute the rider’s mass across a larger area, so you don’t sink in and do gain more traction than you would with a standard tyre size. You can ride with stability, even over firm snow and ice but in deeper/heavier snow more physical effort will be needed. Fat biking around Alta in the winter is one of the most commonly used methods for locals to travel short distances and is becoming increasingly popular as a way to see the northern lights, both by tourists and locals alike. You won't be riding very far, so anyone who can ride a bike at a basic level will enjoy fat biking to see the aurora.

Snowshoeing is a type of hiking that uses a special type of footwear - a snowshoe - to spread your weight over a larger area, allowing you to move easily across powdery snow-covered terrain. While today's snowshoes look modern, snowshoeing has actually played a vital role in Arctic life for centuries, with traders and trappers using wooden versions to move freely through the wilderness.

Snowshoeing is incredibly easy, comfortable and safe. You simply clip your snowshoe to the outside of your hiking boot and off you go. You'll be in the hands of local, experienced, and trained guides who know the area intimately and will guide you safely throughout the hike.

Absolutely. Our host uses a local family outfit called Tristi & Trina who have a lot of experience looking after the dogs and running a small scale sledding business in the local area. The dog's welfare has been and always will be their top priority. The breed of dog they work with is a polar type of dog called the Alaskan Husky. They are born outside, and are happy to live outside all their life - but of course, they are provided with insulated huts full of warm straw and hay to sleep and retreat into.

As this breed was bred to run, they need to have a lot of activity to stay happy and healthy. This is why your host ensures that every dog has enough possibility to move every day, depending on the dog's individual age and state of health. Young dogs, veterans or disabled dogs have reduced running. They will do a run on 5-20km running 4 to 5 days a week, with 2-3 days of rest. Normal dogs can run up to 40-50 km per day, depending on the day and conditions.

To make sure that every dog needs the care and attention they need, our hosts have a daily staff of dedicated employees tending to them. Every morning and afternoon they are trained in and provide the medical care of the dogs. They also work closely with local veterinaries in Alta, who take over where their medical expertise comes to an end.

Sure - you can leave your luggage at your Aurora Dome accommodation for the full duration of the trip.

This trip includes locations or elevations where conditions can be extremely cold. Daytime temperatures may drop below freezing (0°C/32°F), and nights are often significantly colder. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of exposure-related issues, such as frostbite or hypothermia.

Your guide is trained to manage these risks, adapting activity intensity and monitoring group wellbeing. However, it's important to take personal responsibility – bringing the right cold-weather gear (see Kit List), staying hydrated and well-nourished, and recognising early signs of cold stress.

We recommend assessing your personal comfort and resilience in cold environments, and consulting a medical professional if you have health conditions that may be affected. Arriving early can also help you acclimatise to the colder conditions, especially if you're coming from a much warmer climate.

Winter in Alta and on the Finmark Plateau can be described in one word: cold! This is the coldest time of year in this part of Norway, with average temperatures fluctuating between -11.4°C (11.5°F) and -6.7°C (20°F). There are only around 2 hours of full daylight at this latitude in January, with an extended twilight either side of the short sunrise and sunset. This doubles to around 3.5-4 hours of full daylight in February and increases again in March. Of course, the short days make for the best chances to see the Northern Lights, which can be seen until early April.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 64kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
