Trip level explained

Level 3

Moderate

As this is an introductory trip, you do not need any previous experience rock climbing or practicing yoga. Both activities can be tailored to your experience so while absolute beginners are very welcome, so are those who have experience in both. Todra Gorge offers a multitude of quality single and multi-pitch sports climbs for all grades so there really is something for everyone. You should have a reasonable level of fitness for the hiking day but this can be taken at your own pace and if you'd rather sit it out, this is totally fine too.

What if i need to skip an activity?

All activities are also totally optional - so if you decide that yoga isn't for you or you would like to only climb for a little bit each day, this is of course absolutely fine, you are on holiday after all!

Climate Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where daytime temperatures can be extremely high during the times of year when this trip operates. High humidity and limited access to shade can also be factors, and warm temperatures can continue into the nighttime, which additionally influence the body’s ability to cool down. Personal care should be taken to keep as cool as possible in the conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing and proper hydration. Very high temperatures can impair an individual’s physical abilities to perform an activity that they may otherwise be able to do competently at cooler temperatures. People may experience symptoms associated with dehydration and Heat Stroke. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures, by carefully managing the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided.

Fantastic week with a great group of people all becoming friends through trust of each other during the activities. The leaders (hosts) were professional and knowledgeable. Recommend this trip.

  • Sarah T.

I loved my week in Morocco, and have come back rested, refreshed and inspired by all the new experiences. There is a lot of driving, and the auberge is by no means luxurious, but the breadth of activities and environments more than make up for that, and the warmth and support of Natalie, Dan and all the staff make it very difficult to have anything but a wonderful time. I made huge strides in my confidence and capability in climbing under Dan's expert tuition (he's a natural teacher and brilliant at managing a mixed group so everyone gets as much stretch as they want) and I enjoyed a first, unthreatening attempt at yoga with the chilled and caring Natalie. This was my first group trip and my first MBA trip, and I'm so glad it was this one: the group were brilliant, there was a perfect balance of activities and down time, and the Todra Gorge blew my mind. The birdlife and lush greenery of the valley basin, compared with the striking red cliffs and aid hillsides above, create something that feels like a fairy tale. For someone into being outdoors and observing nature, it is a little slice of heaven. From a more practical perspective, it's also amazingly good value.

Prior to this trip, I had never booked onto anything like this before and I fear now that nothing will come close to how incredible it was! I had a good feeling about this trip but it was even better than I could have imagined. Dan and Natalie are wonderful hosts and I found the communication to be great. Natalie regularly checks in with the group to ensure everyone knows what they are doing. It’s non stop which ensures you experience so many amazing things within the time that you are there. I had experience with climbing indoors before but this was my first time climbing outdoors and now I’m itching to get back to climb with the team again! The group were a mixture of complete first timers to people with some with prior climbing experience, all levels were catered for! The night in the desert is something special too and something that will stay with me forever! Make sure to check out the stars ✨ Honestly, do yourself a favour and just book it, incredible experience with an incredible team behind it!

Where do I start?! This is one of the best holidays i have ever been on. Absolutely jam packed week. Natalie and Dan run such an amazing trip with such passion it really shines through and they are truly a credit to the good wonderful people out there in the world! I honestly could not recommend this trip highly enough I promise you wont be disappointed. A night under the stars in the desert with amazing people is definitely one of the many highlights! Also meeting some incredible inspirational people that I wont forget. Also meeting the man the legend Faisal was an absolute pleasure he can not do enough for you! All I can say is get this trip booked ASAP!!

This trip was a fantastic way to see a bit of everything Morocco has to offer without the hassle of organizing it yourself; city, gorge, dessert. I felt some of the activities were mis-represented in the itinerary description and detailed information provided by the hosts, they were "played up" more than what was actually offered. That being said, it was still a great trip, made amazing mostly by the group of people I met.

At 59 and with a fear of heights I was worried about booking this holiday, but with reassurance that I would be fine as long as I had a sense of adventure I booked it and did not regret a second! The itinerary was packed, a trip to the Sahara in 4x4’s and yoga at sunrise, a hike in the mountains visiting a Berber camp and climbing stunning cliff faces with welcome yoga afterwards. The staff at the Riads could not have been more hospitable and the beds were comfy despite being a little cold but I think we were unlucky with the weather. The group of people I joined were amazing, like minded and such fun. The trust we shared as strangers was incredible especially as beginners belaying each other, but that was made easy by the excellent instructions from Dan. I cannot believe how much we achieved as beginners climbing and felt so exhilarated to the point that I want to climb again. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone.

What I expected to be a light "intro" rock climbing trip turned out to be far more challenging. With no prior climbing experience, i even cancelled at one point but rebooked due to non refundable flights, thinking i could sit it out if needed. In hindsight, rebooking was the best decision i could have made. Despite initial discomforts, the warmth of the team at the guesthouse and the strength of the group made it feel like we were part of a small family. Going from never climbing before to completing a VIA FERRATA & tackling 30m climbs was both daunting and exhilarating. What made the difference was the team spirit, constantly encouragaing one another, having each other's backs and pushing through moments we might not have managed alone. We hadn't expected to be belaying, but being quickly trained and trusted with someone elses safety was both terrifying and empowering and left us with a valuable new skill. With such as action packed schedule, there wasn't much time to wander but it would have been amazing to explore the gorge and soak in its beauty at our own pace. Each day brought something new, from hikes and (much needed) yoga, to the sahara desert. It was intense and eye-opening but we came away stronger and I have absolutely no regrets. Thank you Dan, Natalie, Genie, Faisal & the wider team/family.

Reviewing a year late! Wonderfully authentic set-up with a strong connection with the locals. The rock climbing was such a blast after only having climbed plastic; it was so grippy and easy to climb the real thing! Natalie, Dan and Owain were great, attentive instructors and incredibly warm and welcoming. Faisal and Mohammed were gregarious and delightful hosts and chefs. I was lucky to be here during Ramadan too. Accommodation is quite basic, but I didn't really care as I was so tired and happy. The berber camp in the sahara was a blast. Hope to be back as part of a cross country cycling trip - still thinking of Morocco a year later.

Rock climbing in Morocco? How can one resist?! Todra Gorge is a truly beautiful setting in which to scale some cliffs, while feeling completely safe and supported by Dan and his staff, not to mention the camaraderie and encouragement provided by the rest of the participants. From novices to those of us with more rock climbing experience under our belts, this was a fun new environment to rock climb in, and Dan and David set up routes on each of the 2 days of climbing that catered to a variety of levels and experiences. Moreover, though his company Rock n Yogi, I was able to add on an extra day of rock climbing with Dan, where I was able to do some lead climbs and a 4-pitch multi-pitch climb! That was the icing on the cake of this trip for me. The trip to the Sahara desert was an unexpected thrill - the kid came out in all of us as we cavorted on the dunes and even tried out sand-boarding! Sunrise yoga on the dunes was amazing as we were witness to a brilliant display of orange colors playing on the undulating dunes as the sun rose in the east, with an almost full moon hovering in the sky to the west. Dan and Natalie were welcoming and gracious hosts in Tizgui, and are obviously well integrated into the Todra Gorge community. Faisal is an amazing cook, and does a wonderful job of accommodating everyone's dietary restrictions - and he has a warm welcoming smile, especially if you ask him for some of his amazing Moroccan mint tea! :)

A holiday of firsts — and one I’ll never forget. My first solo trip, my first climbing holiday, and I arrived with exactly zero climbing experience. Meeting members of the group, before the scheduled dinner on Saturday evening was great as was getting to know them after dinner when we explored parts of Marrakesh. Lunch and the scenic stop at Ait Ben Haddou broke up the long drive to Todra Gorge perfectly. To be honest, I was nervous before every climb and had no idea what a Via Ferrata even was… until I was clipped onto it. But Dan, our instructor, was exceptional — clear, calm, experienced and full of encouragement. By the end of day one, I’d completed 2 out of 3 climbs. Day two, another 2 out of 3 — including a 40‑metre climb I never imagined I could do. The support from Dan and my fellow climbers pushed me to heights I didn’t think were possible. The mix of enthusiasm and fear before each climb and sense of achievement at the end of the day was unlike anything I’ve ever felt. The yoga sessions afterwards, with Natalie, were the perfect reset — grounding, calming, and exactly what my body and mind needed. Then came the Sahara. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was unforgettable: beautiful accommodation, a 4x4 ride over the dunes and sunrise yoga. And just when I thought the adventure had peaked, the final day arrived: Via Ferrata. An adrenaline rush from start to finish. Scaling the gorge and crossing a wire bridge as a complete novice was intense, exhilarating, and surprisingly one of my favourite moments of the entire trip. Would I recommend this trip? Wholeheartedly. I came home feeling brave, strong, bold, and completely refreshed.

The entire weak was truly unforgettable. Yes, the Todra gorge is breathtaking and the Sahara desert views otherworldly; But our hosts were the highlight, Dan and Natalie are warm and easy going and made us feel at ease right away. They introduced us to the locals and we were welcomed into the Todra Gorge family. The Host at the Inn taught us about the Gorge customs, the local people were warm and friendly and we were served tea at a nomad village. The food was always delicious, traditional and abundant. Dan is an incredible Rock climbing guide. Patient, safety oriented and encouraging. The climbs were set up for all levels so everyone was challenged and successful. The climbing in the Gorge is an incredible experience like no other. Natalie is a pro at making sure everyone is fed, transported and is constantly making sure the trip is running smoothly. However, her true gift is as a Yogi. Having Yoga on a terrace overlooking the Gorge, or in the desert for the sun rise is not only calming, but we also stretched and prepared for the intensive days of climbing and hiking. I highly recommend this adventure for people that enjoy nature, getting a taste of the local customs and want to meet really cool and adventurous people.
  • What a Blast

    Robert K. March 2026
Danny and Natalie treated us like family. Learned loads and had an awesome time. Only thing would be that I would have preferred not having the desert trip as the time in the car really mounts up on this one. Cheers guys.
  • Incredible Experience!

    Aled C. November 2025
I booked this trip to increase my rock climbing experience & to explore parts of Morocco that I wouldn't be able to manage alone. Every aspect of this trip more than matched my expectations. The fact that this like-minded group naturally bonded during activities was a bonus. The scenery throughout the trip was stunning. I was impressed with the rock climbing instructors, staff at Rock & Yogi were thorough & I felt totally safe and was encouraged to push myself to the limit. The opportunity to 'Sand Board' in the desert was the icing on the cake for me, the whole Sahara experience was memorable. My only slight criticism is the lack of breakfast available some mornings. More calories were needed for the level of activity we undertook. One morning, Oats were provided with insufficient milk/water to make them edible. However, all in all, I had an incredible experience that I'll never forget.
  • Lovely adventure in Morocco

    Gemma L. November 2025
I had a really lovely holiday in Morocco. Morocco is a really lovely country and the people are very nice. The two days of climbing were really good, Dan's instructions were great and I feel that I gained confidence. David was a really nice guide for the walk and the Via Farrata and he gave good tips for the climbing- as did Alba. Natalies yoga was really lovely and well thought out and the sunrise yoga in the desert was really magical. I would recommend this trip to everyone. Really fun adventure!
  • Great into to rock climbing & Morocco

    Leigh M. November 2025
Very enjoyable week and having never climbed before thought the instruction and location were fabulous. Good mix between climbing, yoga and desert visit although I wish we had 2 nights at the Sahara camp to have a chance to do more activities there.

I just got back from Morocco a few days ago, so I’d better write this review while everything’s still fresh in my mind. OK, let’s go! Climbing – Fantastic! I’ve done some scrambling and mountaineering before, but I’d never been on the wall until now. Don’t worry—you’ll be in safe hands. And if you already know a bit, no problem! They’ll let you try some more advanced stuff, so you definitely won’t get bored. Yoga – Amazing. Natalie is such a gentle soul; she’ll guide you exactly where you need to be in that moment in time and space. Not sure what that means yet? You will, I promise. Desert – Absolutely mind-blowing. You’ll experience the Milky Way like never before—truly 3D, breathtaking views of the night sky. Food – I’m afraid I’m not much of a foodie, so I can’t write paragraphs about it. I liked it a lot, but then again, I tend to like everything. I’m vegan, and I was well taken care of with delicious, cruelty-free meals. OK, this is getting long—and no one reads long reviews, right? So here’s the short version: my Moroccan adventure was a solid 10 out of 10! If you’re thinking about booking, stop thinking and just do it. You’ll thank me when you get back. • A Great Experience

    Daniel L. October 2025
A fantastic adventure with some great people, good food and lots of varied activities so it doesn't get repetitive, I would recommend practicing your climbing before this trip as easy climbs can be limited for very fresh beginners. My one negative for the trip would be the rooms at the guest house are very minimalistic but as you're pretty much only using them to sleep its not a big deal
  • Amazing Experience!!! In all aspects!! Thank you

    Robicisabelle October 2025
I had an amazing time. I had never done rock climbing before, or really knew where I was going. Everything was perfect and enjoyed everything from the trip. From the landscapes (the gorges which were breathtaking), the guesthouse we stayed with amazing food and an opportunity to ask more about local culture, the climbing itself (with a mix of levels which was even better!), the yoga, the guides, the smooth running of all activities, the group and the banter. Nathalie & Dan are extremely nice people and it's great to share with them & see how they integrated there and really appreciate the local culture. The Yoga was really great too! David was also a fantastic help, for climbing. Seeing the dunes of the Sahara on the last day was very special too!
  • Fantastic trip from start to finish

    Lily R. October 2025
This was a fantastic trip from start to finish. The group, which consisted entirely of solo travellers like myself, were absolutely lovely; everyone was incredibly supportive of each other and there was 'great craic' every day. We all had great fun climbing, doing yoga, via ferrata, swimming in the gorge and during our trip to the desert. The guides, Owain and David, were brilliant, super friendly and made sure everyone was safe whilst climbing. Nat and Dan have created a lovely environment for everyone to enjoy this trip. Nat is a wonderful yoga instructor and really made everyone feel so welcome. NB Be prepared if you're going in September; it does get very warm and the taxis do not have air conditioning or opening windows at the back, so the journey to/from the gorge and the desert can be quite uncomfortable.
  • An amazing trip

    Oliver P. September 2025
I highly recommend this trip - Natalie, Dan and David were incredible hosts who talked us through climbing and yoga in the midst of some beautiful scenery, matching the instruction to everyone's individual skill level. They dealt with any problems with kindness and professionalism and we were made to feel very welcome.
  • What a trip!

    Shaun T. September 2025
From the first to the last moment, every aspect of our holiday had been considered and covered, Natalie and Dan have put together an incredible holiday package, from which I have memories that will last a lifetime. Every guide, driver and host we met couldn't do enough for us, and the locations at which stayed will live long in my memory, from camel-riding across the Sahara dunes to watch the sunrise, to climbing rock faces in Todra Gorge, I couldn't have wished for a better holiday! This was my first solo-holiday, and thanks to the experience that Natalie and Dan have put together, it certainly won't be my last.
  • An exhilarating trip that balances fun, challenge, and rest

    Gina R. September 2025
An amazing experience in the Tonda gorge. I met a group of lovely, supportive, like-minded people who I am sure will remain friends for a long time to come. Nat and Dan arranged an exciting, diverse, and exhilarating program which pushed me safely out of my comfort zone, and left me wanting to return to Morocco for more climbing, traveling, and adventuring. Highlights were learning about the Berber culture, the optional sound bath, and stargazing after yoga in the Sahara desert: a magical experience. Saha termirt!
  • Amazing trip - lives up to all the reviews!

    Jennifer M. June 2025
When I was looking at the reviews before booking this trip, they honestly looked almost too good to be true, but having been on the trip back in March, I can safely say they were spot on! A truly memorable trip that takes you to beautiful parts of Morocco many visitors don't get to experience. A jam-packed yet chilled trip wonderfully hosted by Dan, Natalie and Owain, with special mention to Faizal and Mohamed at the Auberge, who welcomed us during Ramadan and were so generous with their kindness - and their teasing! I particularly loved the rock climbing and trip to the Sahara, with the yoga a welcome antidote to sore muscles and 'belay neck'. . . Our group was such a fabulous bunch; we really bonded, and several of us based in the UK continue to meet up since we got back. If you're considering this trip, I say go for it!
  • Great week climbing and exploring Morocco

    Lyndsay T. May 2025
This was such a fantastic, well organised trip. Hosts Dan and Natalie were so friendly and knowledgeable, the climbing blew my mind, with great support from David (Spidermonkey) and Owain. Yoga was so welcome and necessary after all of the travelling and activities, via ferrata was so much fun and the cherry on the cake was the night in the Sahara. Our group was a mix of wonderful spuld of all ages and we gelled really well. And who could forget Faizal the host at the Todra Gorge Auberge, such a knowledgeable and funny guy who made some delicious food. Would 100% do it all again.
  • The most amazing time

    Julie e. May 2025
This was my first solo group trip. I was nervous going and have never done rock climbing before. But as soon as I met everyone I completely relaxed. I had the best time. The accommodation in Marrakesh was lovely and the accommodation in Todra gorge was traditional, basic but nice and clean with stunning views, top food and Faisal added to the character of the place! The scenery was stunning and the rock climbing was in a relaxed manner so there was no pressure or you could challenge yourself as much as you liked. Getting to the top was a huge buzz and you feel you really achieved something and everyone was so supportive of each other. The yoga was amazing and went so well with the rock climbing and was so relaxing. Although it was an active holiday it also felt relaxed in the nature around you and it was so special. The desert was the icing on the cake and it was just amazing and felt so privileged being there for the full moon. Nat, Dan, Owain and David were all so lovely. Thank you and would love to return! 😊
  • Climbing crags to desert dunes!

    Katherine P. May 2025
Brilliant trip with the rock and yogi team! The whole team in morocco was fab, from the drivers, accommodation staff to the instructors, everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything was really well organised and ran smoothly. The rock climbing in Todra Gorge was beautiful Dan and Max did a great job making everyone feel comfortable and were able to tailor the days so everyone got the most out of it. Natalie took some lovely yoga sessions to unwind after the days climbing which was much appreciated! The trip into the desert, surrounded by endless sand dunes, was a nice way to finish off the trip with some sunset and sunrise yoga. The trip had a packed itinerary which was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. Would definitely recommend!
  • Amazing experience

    Rebecca A. May 2025
What an experience!! The whole trip was so well organised from start to finish. All three instructors, Natalie, Owain and Dan, were fabulous, giving us all so much confidence and encouragement. The setting for the rock climbing is absolutely stunning, and the Sahara was breathtaking. I can't praise this trip enough, one of the best experiences of my life. A huge thank you to Dan and Natalie for your support, encouragement and excellent company.
  • Overall great experience!

    Milan N. March 2025
Trip was absoultely amazing. Evertything perfectly organized. Great variety of all kinds of activities: climbing, yoga, via ferata, sleeping in a camp in the desert, hiking tour, seeing a historical world heritage site, getting in touch with locals. Natalie, Dan and Owain were super nice. Felt very comfortable when climbing eventhough I am a bit anxious of heights, which was due to the great explanation beforehand. Overall great experience, would definitely recommend.
  • Rock & Yogi - a great introduction to real outdoor climbing.

    Rimal P. March 2025
Outstanding location for people new to outdoor climbing. Excellent itinerary lead by friendly & professional guides: Dan, Owain & Natalie were all supportive and informative. The yoga is definitely recommended to relieve aching muscles. Great accommodation at the auberge - Faisal & Mohamed were super friendly and generous. Highly recommended!

FAQs

Drinkable water is collected from the gorge while you are out and about - and water bottles can be filled up at each accommodation so some reusable bottles will be well used.

As you will be travelling by private bus to Todra Gorge and back, you can just take your bag with you all the way.

You will need to bring your own climbing shoes. If you don't have already, these can be bought for approx. £30 from Decathlon or similar. You should buy those that fit comfortably in the shop - don't follow advice for them to be extra tight or a smaller shoe size than you would normally wear - your feet will swell with the heat in Morocco anyway so finding a pair that fit like normal shoes and no tighter is important.

Ramadan is expected to take place from 17th February to 19th March 2026. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.

This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.

Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.

Todra Gorge is known for long dry months usually from February to November. In February to March, daytime temperatures sit around 15-20°C and drop to below 10°C at night. April and May will be a bit warmer, usually around 25°C in the day but again, cooler at night. The months of June-August are too hot to run the trip so it resumes again in September when daytime temperatures can still hit 30°C. It starts to cool a little in October and November, then becomes too cold for climbing in December and January. Moroccan heat is dry as so much of the landscape is desert - rainfall is rare in the months the trips runs but isn't unheard of. If you do experience rain it is likely to be short and sharp and often a welcome relief to the heat.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 424kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
