This morning you'll set off hiking in the eastern tip of the island, starting from the charming village of Gornje Selo, a place that seems frozen in time. As you wander through its winding streets and admire the traditional stone architecture, you'll experience the authentic charm and tranquility that makes this island so special. Solta is also renowned for producing some of the finest olive oil in the country, and this morning you'll have the chance to visit a local olive oil producer, where you can taste and learn about the secrets behind this liquid gold. Next, hike through the serene beauty of olive groves, vineyards, fig trees and lush pine forests to reach the island's highest point, Vela Straz, for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Dalmatian islands and distant mountains. Descend towards the coastal village of Stomorska and its lively harbour, soaking in the laid-back vibe as you watch local fishermen. The southern shore of Solta is one of the most stunning and dramatic coastlines in the region, and a well-kept secret given the lack of roads on this side of the island. When it comes to exploring this hidden paradise of secluded bays, untouched pebble beaches, awe-inspiring cliffs and intriguing stone formations, sea kayaking is undoubtedly the ideal way to go. Spend the day paddling to countless hidden coves, stopping for swims and snorkelling along the way – and be one of the lucky few to have the privilege of exploring in this way.

On your final day of island adventure, you'll explore the northern shores of Solta, this time gliding over the crystal-clear waters on a paddleboard (SUP). Start off from Rogac Bay, paddling eastward to the nearby bay of Necujam, which is dotted with quiet coves. Make a stop at Piskera, an intriguing spot where the fascinating ruins of a Roman maritime villa and its fishpond lie beneath the glistening sea. It's believed to have been owned by Emperor Diocletian (247-316 AD), one of the most significant rulers in the history of the Roman Empire. Next, jump into the water for some unforgettable snorkelling around the shipwreck of Kontesa, resting just a few metres below the surface. Tonight you'll head out with your group to a charming local taverna – a fantastic opportunity to indulge in the traditional culinary delights of Solta one final time, before bidding farewell to your new favourite island.

Food and Dietary info

The Dalmatian Islands have an abundance of fresh seafood, fish, vegetables and fruit, and Solta is no exception. The islanders are proud of their rich culinary traditions and during the course of the trip, you'll have the chance to savour some delicious dishes in many local spots recommended by your host. Specialities include grilled fish or scampi, black risotto (with squid ink), octopus with potatoes baked on an open fire, and many other dishes – expertly seasoned with local olive oil, garlic and herbs (such as rosemary and sage).

On the nights where evening meals are not included, you can opt to dine with a sea view at the famous Pasarela restaurant in Rogac, just a short walk away from your apartments. Lunches are included, and usually consist of a picnic arranged by your guide. Solta is especially known for its traditions of winemaking as well as honey and olive oil production, so you'll have some tasting experiences included too during your stay.

Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for – please just request this on your passenger info form.

Optional Extras

Upgrades

Due to the limited size of the property, guaranteed pre-booked single rooms are not available on this trip.

To request any extras, message your host via your Much Better Adventures account once you have booked your trip.

All extras must be paid before your trip starts.

Trip level explained

Level 3

Moderate

All of the activities on this trip can be done without any previous experience – you'll have expert guides to show you the ropes and help you navigate the kayaking. Although each day is not overly strenuous, you'll be fairly active for a few hours, so the trip is best enjoyed if you have a decent level of fitness and agility, enjoy the outdoors and are comfortable in the water.

The hikes are along relatively gentle paved and unpaved trails, with some occasional steep sections. Plenty of stops will be made to enjoy the views and the scenic villages along the way.

Sea kayaking will involve two days where you'll be paddling for approximately four hours, along the stunning coastline with plenty of opportunities for (optional) swimming and snorkelling breaks along the way. This trip is totally suitable for beginner or intermediate-level sea kayakers; however, a good level of fitness will help you enjoy your time on the water to the full. Sea kayaking will be in twin kayaks, however, single kayaks may be available at additional charge for experienced and confident sea kayakers - please ask your host for further details.

The 20km bike ride across the island from Stomorska to Maslinica is on tarmac roads which are undulating throughout, with occasional steep sections. Should you prefer to opt out of the cycling (or any of the other activities), you are of course free to do so and you can make your day as leisurely or active as you want it to be.

What will I need to carry?

You'll need to have a larger bag suitable for all your belongings which will be transported for you, and then a small daypack to carry personal items during each day of the activities.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

Absolutely phenomenal adventure trip. Every single day was perfection. Our host and guide Ivana is the epitome of knowledge, kindness, friendliness, fun, guidance and to top it off a brilliant chef 😍. We were lucky enough to have Dejan cook for us a traditional dinner and it felt like we were invited into someone’s home. Wholesome, genuine and authentic. Our group was truly the best. Accommodations are excellent and everything is taken care of. This is a place I am intending to return to for sure. Thanks to Ivana and Dejan!

Right from the morning espresso and filling breakfast, to the traditional Croatian meals and wine, I was made to feel like family by the star organising team, Ivanna and Dejan. A perfect mix of activity and rest this holiday has it all! If you’re travelling solo, this is a wonderful way to meet like minded people of all ages that enjoy an active break away from the hustle and bustle of Split town. Do yourself a favour and get booking, you will not regret it !

This trip exceeded all my expectations. The island is beautiful, the accommodation was lovely, the group was great fun, the activities were really well organised. The balance of activities was good, and the guides could not have been kinder or more attentive. I would highly recommend this trip. Don’t hesitate to book!

My 3rd trip with MBA did not disappoint. I loved the way the itinerary focussed on going "deep" rather than exploring a wider area with lot's of travel in between. The mixture of activities meant we got to see the Island from different perspectives and didn't see many other tourists. Our host Dejan, made us feel very welcome at our base and introduced us to local cuisine both at the accomodation and at cosy eateries on the Island. Our guide Ivana was fun, energetic, knowledgable and made excellent espresso's!

I had an amazing trip in Šolta with our guide Ivana. Activities Really glad there was such a mix of activities it meant every day was different. It was nice to have some free time each day too so you had some time to recuperate for the next day. The kayaking was challenging but we were given expert instructions and we went at a speed catered for the group so you didn’t feel like you were holding anyone back if you were slower. We always took plenty of breaks for snacks, water and rest throughout all activities and Ivana really adjusted to our speed and ability e. g. we were speedy on the bikes so she took us on a longer route. The kayaking was one of my favourite bits because you could see so much of the island. Food Ivana cooked is an incredible meal on the first night of local cuisine and each morning there was something for everyone at breakfast. I bought lots of snacks in case but barely had any because we were so well fed. Accommodation As there was only 5 people on this trip I didn’t need to share with anyone so this was nice. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities to make your own food if you would like on the evenings dinner isn’t provided. Everything was spotless. Lovely little patio to sit with the view of the bay. Guide Ivana really made the trip and you can tell she is very experienced and loves what she does. There wasn’t a question she didn’t know the answer to and provided such rich information on the culture and history of Šolta and Croatia all together. Ivana provided such a great and friendly energy which helped the group warm up quicker. She really did make the trip for me!

Cannot recommend this trip enough! The variety of activities was spot on with days of adventure with enough afternoons of some down time to explore on our own and/or hang out with new friends. Given the hours of activity, it's definitely for someone with a good level of fitness. I went in late October and thought the weather was perfect for outdoor activity (14-20C or 57-68F). The brave of us still swam in the water but it was still very cool! The hosts Dejan and Ivanna are the kindest people who share not only their country and island with us, but also Croatian culture. Couldn't ask for a better week.

I had a great time in Šolta - I just wish the trip could have been longer! I was travelling alone and really enjoyed getting to know the group and our guides. Dejan owns the accommodation where we stayed which was lovely, clean and comfortable apartments with such beautiful views. He and Ivana were amazing, full of knowledge about the local area, and so friendly and warm. The food was also fabulous. I really enjoyed all the activities, but found the final day of kayaking quite challenging so ended up going on a solo hike and taking the day at my own pace which was lovely! We also went wine and olive oil tasting which was a fun way of learning more about the local produce and I came away with lots of souvenirs. I really recommend this trip. Thanks to Ivana and Dejan for a wonderful week!

What a lovely pair of hosts in Dejan and Ivana! Both so enthusiastic in what they must have been doing for years now and still so accommodating and super friendly to all of us. Thank you so much for your service par excellence!

What an incredible experience! I was looking for a holiday that was challenging and immersive and it really lived up to all I was expecting - and more. The activities were carefully planned and gave us an experience of the island that you couldn't get as a tourist. The walks included breathtaking scenery, local history and stories from the island. The cycling was challenging but with well planned and interesting stops, and the sea kayaking was better than I could have imagined - what an amazing way to explore the coast, with stops for snorkelling and picnic lunches. As the most 'mature' in the group (but relatively fit) I found the mixture of challenge and pace just right for me. The whole experience was 'made' by Ivana - she was a great guide, host, cook and carrier of snacks. She was encouraging, interesting and went out of her way to make our trip special, nothing was too much trouble. We were a group of mixed ages and had some great conversations around the dinner table. As a solo female traveller at the older end of the MBA age range it was perfect for me - great company, interesting, safe and exactly the right amount of challenging.

This was my first trip with much better adventures and I will definitely be doing another if they are all as good as this. I really enjoyed the mix of physical activities alongside learning about the history and culture. I think it’s hard to categorise these trips into difficulty ratings as there is so much variation in peoples experience and opinion. The hiking and biking I would class as easy but for others in the group it was moderate and 2km biking uphill was certainly challenging for less experienced cyclists. The sea kayaking was the challenging activity for me mainly as I was very nervous about being in the kayak with the skirt on. My fears were soon put to rest though and I absolutely loved it. Ivana our guide was simply brilliant. Warm, welcoming with a great sense of humour and so knowledgeable. . She really is what made this trip so good. The group I was with were also fab and we gelled really well as a group despite having a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Now my kids are mini adults this was a first solo trip for me while my husband went off on a golf break and meeting new people who are like minded is one of the things that made this trip so enjoyable. The facilities are good and the food was lovely. I’m a pescatarian and a couple of others were vegetarian and we were well catered for. Make sure you ask for Ivanas mash potato! It’s delicious. Ivana also kindly drove the group to local restaurants for a couple of nights on the nights when dinner isn’t included. Whilst recognising that I was there as a tourist I enjoyed the fact that the island isn’t touristy so it feels like you are experiencing the real Croatia. I enjoy cooking so appreciated visiting the olive oil producer, so much so that I came home with four bottles of different flavours! I can’t tell you how good the basil one is. Going early October was also a nice last bit of warm summer sun before the nights get longer and the days get colder.

  • Amazing Trip!

    Jessica D. October 2025
We just returned home from this trip and couldn’t be more pleased with the whole experience. We were 2 of 10 on the trip which seemed the perfect amount of people-not too many to be overwhelming and just enough for a fun social atmosphere. We stayed in double apartments (4 people to an apartment, shared bathroom). The hiking, biking, kayaking days were tailored to the weather to ensure everyone had a nice time. We hiked through the island villages, bicycled to an olive oil refinery, kayaked to beautiful bays and so much more! Our incredible guide Ivana checked in with each of us regularly during activities and our down time to make sure we were doing well. I opted out of a day of hiking to rest and explore the island on my own and Ivana pulled out the bicycles for us. She was so thoughtful and in tune with our group. If you have any doubts about if the activities are too difficult, put them to rest as you will be well looked after. And the food! All the meals were 100% homemade and incredible. Ivana supplied snacks during activities, and drove us to the store to pick up anything that was needed. She also made us reservations and drove us to other villages for dinner if we chose to do that for our non-included dinners. I’d 100% recommend booking this amazing adventure and want to send a massive “thank you” to Red Adventures Croatia and their wonderful team :)
  • Small island experience

    David October 2025
A very enjoyable and unique experience on the small island of Solte just off Split. Our guide Ivana was excellent and worked tirelessly to run all the activities and help us enjoy the island. The island is very small and peaceful. The kayaking trips are a real highlight which go around the islands coast. There is time for swimming in the mornings and evenings. The bike ride is fairly challenging as it includes a couple of steep climbs but is rewarding as the views are amazing and we mixed it with olive oil tasting. All in all a good experience!

  • Another brilliant week spent on

    Donna D. October 2025
Another brilliant week spent on this MBA trip in Šolta. The island is less than an hour from Split but feels incredibly remote and peaceful with very few tourists. The accommodation was great - a good sized apartment with two bedrooms (4 people) and a lovely terrace overlooking the cove. The days out were well organised and a good variety of activities (2 walks, 1 cycling and 2 kayaking) with some lovely introductions to local olive oil and wine producers. The pace felt good and seemed to work for the whole group. There was down time each day which meant we could go swimming or just chill for a bit. We ate incredibly well - excellent dinners cooked by the hosts, lunches on the beach and some nice island restaurants - we never went hungry. Finally, a huge shout out to our guide Ivana - the best we’ve ever had on one of these trips. Kind, knowledgeable, funny and straightforward - she really made the week memorable. Thank you!
  • My favorite vacation ever!

    Karen W. October 2025
From the moment we met our tour group at the office in Split, I knew it was going to be a great adventure. Dejan (our host) and Ivana (fearless leader of tours/cook/guru of information) were outstanding. I had the opportunity to reconnect with my college roommate and also to meet so many amazing people from all different places in the world. New friends! We shared life stories, bonded over delicious food and wine, and came to know each other in a way only possible by spending days and evenings together for six days. The adventures themselves were so well orchestrated and wonderful. Kayaking on the open sea was hard! But we powered through, and by the second kayak day we felt a groove and could truly appreciate the beauty. Dejan cooked pica, and folks…that dish was one of the most delightful parts of our tour. Overall, I highly recommend this experience to any traveler with adventure in mind. It was truly an experience I will never forget.
  • Perfect Croatian getaway

    Rachel M. October 2025
Solta is just a ferry hop away from Split but it feels wonderfully secluded and the perfect place for disconnection and adventure. The team have curated an ideal week of exhilarating activities, delicious food (including Croatian ‘peka’ and plenty of fish) and downtime, with every detail taken care of. Our guide Ivana was a force of energy, humour and interesting facts about the environment and the history that we explored. This really was a week to remember, and has inspired me to explore more of what Croatia has to offer.
  • Epic Break

    Emily S. October 2025
I had an amazing time on the hike, kayak and snorkel trip to Solta. It was a lovely mix of activity and rest, amazing food, homestay vibes and beautiful scenery. The people on the trip were great and super friendly - we gelled really fast. Our hosts were absolutely fantastic and it felt more like you were part of friends and family gathering than an organised trip. Our main host, Ivana, was one of kind with her great energy, kindness and knowledge. Would highly recommend:)
  • 6 out of 5!

    Marie H. October 2025
This was an incredible trip and I would score it 6 out of 5 if I could! Solta is a beautiful island with the most stunning views, gorgeous beaches and lovely, warm clear waters. The activities were fantastic: kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, cycling and hiking. As well as some wine tasting and olive oil tasting. If you enjoy water based sports - this is the trip for you! I joined 9 people I had never met before, from all over the world. And as we got to know each other, sharing the adventures with them, became even more fun. The accommodation was good and the meals provided were great, especially Dejan’s traditional Peka, which he lovingly cooked for us for hours! The one thing that stands out for me though, and puts this trip above others, would be Dejan and Ivana. They were warm, friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and attentive to the group’s needs. Their love for the island, its history and all things outdoors made this an exceptional holiday - thank you both!

Absolutely wonderful adventure! Our host (Dejan) and guide (Ivana) were incredible. They made us feel like one of the family and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. This is a very active trip with several km of kayaking, biking, hiking, paddle boarding, wine tasting, olive oil tasting, and dining. The island is beautiful and there is also plenty of opportunity to relax and swim in the sea. Everything about this trip was a great experience - wonderful food, people, adventure and culture.
  • Superb trip all round

    Charley September 2025
This trip was everything I wanted and more. The activities were wonderful and well balanced, we got to explore the whole island and learn a huge amount about the rich culture and history. But mostly, the trip was made by our guide, Ivana. Ivana helped everyone feel at home and looked after us better then most 5* hotels. The food was out of this world and everything was fresh, local and traditional. Ivana is a force of nature, with expertise knowledge on the history, culture, gastronomy, geography and physical activities that this week away includes! It's a none stop week of stunning views, delicious foods and great laughs. I would not hesitate in recommending this trip, Red Adventures and especially Ivana.

What an amazing weekend of activities on the beautiful island of Solta. Dejan our host made us all feel very welcome and along with fellow guide Ivana we were treated to some great activities, walking, cycling, kayaking and snorkeling on and off the island. Dejan and Ivana's local knowledge was superb and added real context to the places we visited. Thank you all for an amazing time.

A fantastic adventure holiday with a really great group of people and amazing host and guide in Dejan and Ivana. The itinerary and activities showcased the awesome natural beauty of Solta and we also experienced the warm Croatian culture first hand with the locals. I highly recommend this trip.

  • Beautiful Croatia with the BEST hosts

    Libby B. July 2025
Had the most invigorating, relaxing and joyful week in beautiful Solta with a fantastic bunch of folk hosted by the most amazing guides, Dejan and Ivana. Expertly led, Dejan shared with us his deep knowledge of Croatia’s history and culture as we progressed through the well balanced itinerary of well organised activities. In addition to the activities, Dejan organised some honey, wine and olive oil tasting giving us the chance to meet the locals and try their produce. Food was also another highlight as we enjoyed delicious regional dishes cooked by Dejan and his partner while also getting the chance to enjoy local restaurants too. Dejan and team were brilliant in bringing the group together and ensuring that everyone’s needs were met and adaptations were made to factor in abilities and weather. The group felt very much looked after. Can’t recommend this trip enough!
  • Unforgettable Experience on Šolta Island – I felt like a real local!

    Gillian A. July 2025
I had an incredible trip to Šolta Island, and I can’t recommend it enough. The guides were excellent—deeply knowledgeable about Croatian history and culture—and their passion truly enhanced the experience. What made this trip especially unique was staying in Dejan’s personal home. It created such an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Many of our meals were homemade by Dejan and his wife, Tena, and you could feel the care and love in every bite. They were such generous and thoughtful hosts—I genuinely felt like a part of their family. The activities were adventurous and at times strenuous in the summer heat, but the guides were always attentive and made thoughtful accommodations for the weather. Since we went on the final trip of the season (due to the high temperatures), I’d recommend booking earlier in the year for a more comfortable climate. Thankfully, the accommodations had air conditioning, and there were plenty of opportunities to swim and cool off in the Mediterranean. We also visited three local farmers—a beekeeper, a winemaker, and an olive oil producer—each sharing fascinating insights into their craft and the island’s traditions. My favorite part of the trip was the kayaking. Over two days, we explored nearly the entire island by sea—an unforgettable way to experience Šolta’s natural beauty. All in all, this was more than just a vacation—it was a cultural immersion. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and deeply connected to the island and its people. Thank you, Dejan, Tena and Ivana for making it so special!

Her passion evolved into a career, backed by a decade of studies including degrees in international tourism and destination management. She’s worked in the adventure travel sector since 2012, living in Italy, the UK, and now sunny Portugal.

Over twenty years, Marta has explored over 55 countries, visiting remote areas like Ghana, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Haiti and Nepal’s Upper Mustang region. As a Senior Adventure Expansion Manager at Much Better Adventures, she focuses on creating life-changing experiences, ranging from multi-activity adventures, challenging treks to ultimate adventures in iconic places. She loves the challenge of finding the best local adventure hosts around the world, collaborating on adventures that offer genuine immersion, pushing beyond the beaten path and working on exclusive itineraries that challenge your comfort zone.

What makes her tick? Enabling people to live adventure-rich lives while positively impacting and empowering local communities around the world, generating sustainable opportunities for both the host, guides, community, and the environment.

Lots of places in Split and Solta don't take card, so bring some cash with you or use an ATM to withdraw money for anything you might like to buy.

The tap water on Solta Island is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottle to fill up at the hotels, public fountains and at restaurants to avoid buying single use plastic bottles.

The weather on the island of Solta is usually pretty mild throughout the year, although adverse wind, sea or rainy conditions can be unpredictable with some disruptions possible at any time of the year. The best you can do is to be prepared for anything and come equipped with layers of clothing, sunscreen and waterproofs. Your host will be monitoring the forecasts during the course of the trip and will suggest alternative, safer kayaking routes or will swap around the order of the activities in the event that sea conditions are not favourable.

If your arrival flight into Split is delayed, there are other evening ferries to Solta – the last one usually departs at 20:30. Your host will provide assistance should you need to travel independently to the island due to a late incoming flight.

Tandem sea kayaks are used on this trip. They have a covered deck and are generally longer, faster and sit lower in the water than touring or sit-on-top kayaks. There's a spray sheet which you'll lock in yourself (full guidance will be provided by your expert kayak guides). You'll also learn how to steer using foot pedals to control the rudder. As these are double kayaks, you will be paddling in pairs.

This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.

Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

The climate in Solta is mild for most of the year. It gets very hot during the summer months of July to September with temperatures reaching 35°C: for this reason, the trip runs from April to June, and late September to October, when temperatures are milder (ranging between 17°C and 25°C). Rain is possible at any time of year, so do come prepared for this possibility. The average water temperature is about 17°C in April and 18-24°C in May, June, September and October, making the latter part of the season a more favourable time of year if you are into snorkelling and swimming.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 91kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
