You'll have a briefing this morning with your climbing guide and get set up with your kit before heading on foot to the entrance of the gorge. The 400m near-vertical red rock cliffs are a climber's mecca, with plenty of routes available for total novices as well as advanced climbers to progress along. You'll spend the day getting to grips with the equipment and your technique before heading back to the guesthouse late afternoon. After a bit of time to chill, there'll be a pre-dinner yoga class to limber up and stretch out. Dinner will be a social and hearty affair.

Heading back to the guesthouse late afternoon you'll again have another yoga class on the roof as the sun sets. This is the perfect way to relax before dinner; the rooftop is also a relaxing place to hang out and star-gaze at the end of the day.

Passing goat-herders, wandering donkeys and nomadic locals along the way, you'll follow the path to a plateau with 360° views across the Atlas Mountains. Back at the guesthouse, it's time to head to Merzouga. You'll travel partly by private bus or car and partly by 4x4 desert truck to reach your luxury camp in the dunes. There'll be time for a bit of sandboarding before a relaxing sunset yoga session. Dinner is served in one of the open tents, with the vastness and silence of the desert providing a dramatic backdrop.

You'll follow an iron-railed route and be clipped in with a harness – although it might feel scary, you're very safe! Dive into the world of surfing, whether you're a beginner or looking to finesse your skills, guided by our seasoned instructors. Spend your morning catching waves in the glistening blue waters, framed by vibrant red hills. Fuelled by north Atlantic groundswells, these waves travel a long way to create the epic conditions that Taghazout and its surroundings are known for – think sandy-bottomed, beginner-friendly waves to long, glassy point breaks. After a picnic lunch on the beach (and maybe a nap in the shade) paddle back out for some more surf, heading back to your riad when the sun gets lower in the sky to shower off the salt. Stretch out your muscles with a sunset yoga session, and then head to dinner at your riad.

Build on the skills you learnt the day before with two hours of surf coaching, followed by a picnic lunch on the beach. After lunch, take a beautiful ride along the Atlantic coastline, arriving at the sand dunes where your guide will provide a brief introduction to sandboarding and demonstrate how to ride the board. Experience the thrill as you glide down the dunes with the majestic ocean as your backdrop. Back at the riad, wind down with a mellow post-surf yoga sesh and a delicious dinner. It's all about good vibes and good times!

Trip level explained

Level 3

Moderate

You do not need any previous experience of rock climbing, surfing or practising yoga. All activities will be tailored to your experience so while absolute beginners are very welcome, so are those who have more experience. Todra Gorge offers a multitude of quality single and multi-pitch sports climbs for all grades so there really is something for everyone. You should have a reasonable level of fitness for the hiking day but this can be taken at your own pace and if you'd rather sit it out, that's totally fine too.

In terms of surfing, this trip is most suitable for beginner surfers who want to learn some basic surf skills and work on their technique. Your instructor will adjust every lesson to suit your skill level. The only requirement is that you can swim and tread water.

What if i need to skip an activity?

All activities are also totally optional – so if you decide that yoga isn't for you or you would like to only climb or surf for a little bit each day, this is of course absolutely fine, you are on holiday after all!

Climate Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where daytime temperatures can be extremely high during the times of year when this trip operates. High humidity and limited access to shade can also be factors, and warm temperatures can continue into the nighttime, which additionally influence the body’s ability to cool down. Personal care should be taken to keep as cool as possible in the conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing and proper hydration. Very high temperatures can impair an individual’s physical abilities to perform an activity that they may otherwise be able to do competently at cooler temperatures. People may experience symptoms associated with dehydration and Heat Stroke. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures, by carefully managing the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

Brilliant trip full of excitement and activity. The food was excellent at almost every meal and the hosts were lovely and helpful. A few logistical bumps and minor issues with accommodation but nothing major. Great trip all around would highly recommend.

*Would have rated 4. 5 if possible This trip is a great way to experience the different parts of Morocco and what they offer. The guides in both the gorge and by the coast are very experienced and supportive and will meet you at your level, so both beginners and experts will have fun. Natalie will assist you with any transfers or extra nights you need and is very responsive with any requests. The food provided is amazing, but be aware that water is rarely provided for free and must be purchased for ~5-15 dirhams per bottle in most places besides the gorge where you can fill up from a spring. Meals during travel days were usually around 130 dirhams. The long drives are tough with most of the taxis having little to no air conditioning, so it gets very hot and cramped with everyone inside. We didn’t stop for lunch on the 8. 5 hour drive from the gorge to the coast, so make sure you have snacks for the road. Sandboarding on the coast was included as one of the activities on the itinerary but we were only offered that in replacement of the day of surfing we lost due to poor surf conditions. The accommodations at the gorge varied in terms of quality depending on which riad your room is in, but in general they were fine. Overall the little inconveniences were nothing compared to the whole experience and I would highly recommend this tour.

I want to start by thanking everyone involved in this trip from the rock climbing to the yoga to the surf every raid and taxi driver! We were met with kind welcoming energy and immediately felt like apart of the family! The rock climbing, yoga, and surfing pushed me to challenge myself in a controlled safe environment. It was an incredible trip that I highly recommend and can’t wait to do again! Thank you all!

A great trip, really well organised and lovely people. Some of the best climbing I've done, suitable for all abilities and loads of climbs all really close to each other. Great instructors, it was my first time doing yoga and I've carried on with it since I got home! Surfing was fun and lots of help if needed. Met lots of amazing people and ate lots of tasty food!

  • Aedan M.

This trip is packed! The rock climbing is amazing and the guide did well to find great routes for the groups level. The surfing is well organised and great beaches are not far away. The accomodation will great. Visiting the Sahara for a night was amazing! Things to note. . . Strap in for some long drives! You are hosted by different people for the surfing and the rock climbing, and you travel to each without the hosts, which isn't a problem, but just I guess unusual. The sort of people who book this trip probably don't need long to explore Marrakech as you can see it sufficiently in an afternoon. If you wonder what's for dinner it's Tagine, always Tagine 🤣 If it still sounds like it's for you, it is, book on!

This trip was such a great way of experiencing Morocco, filled with activities and at the same time allowing us to connect with the local culture! Amazing views, amazing food, and amazing people! Our group was composed of people with different backgrounds and experiences but we were all so eager to get involved and share moments that I could not ask for better vibes. Our guides were prepared, supportive, and always willing to listen to our needs and requests. If you are still considering if to sign up for the next departure, do it: I highly recommend it!

This trip is jam-packed with activity and will give you an excellent taste of what Morocco is all about. Climbing in the Todra Gorge is incredible. I've been climbing 27 years and had an amazing time, but our group was mostly people who had little-to-no experience and fun was had by all! I had never surfed before, but the people at Mint Surf made it very approachable and fun. The beach at Tagazout is a great place to learn. We also got two different chances to sandboard on giant dunes, some hiking, ATVs in the desert, plus yoga every day. Not to mention time wandering the markets and crazy streets of both Marrakech & Agadir. Natalie & Dan (Todra) and Courtney (Mint Surf) were all great -- they really seem to love what they do and went out of their way to make sure everyone had a good time and was able to do what they wanted to do. Be aware that if you've done lots of group trips before, you're probably used to having one guide, who stays with you from beginning to end. This trip is a bit different -- Natalie will coordinate your entire trip, but she & Dan will only be with you in Todra and in the desert. Then, you won't really have a "guide," but Courtney will coordinate everything at the surf camp and is (very) available to answer questions, help with travel arrangements or book other activities. Haitam -- the main surf instructor -- is great! Such a positive attitude! I have to say it's a bit weird not having a guide for the first night in Marrakech, but our group was particularly outgoing/friendly and was able to quickly bond and coordinate using the WhatsApp group. Food was reasonably good. Accommodation was good in Marrakech and at the surf camp. The desert camp is incredible -- wish we had gotten to spend another night there! In Todra, it needs some work and I have written MBA separately with more details. Barring the accommodation in Todra, I would say this was a really great trip overall. Would definitely recommend!

Natalie & Dan are fantastic hosts and the yoga was amazing after a day of climbing! The climbing was fantastic and well organised - shout out to David for being an awesome instructor! The food throughout the trip was spot on, big shout out to Faisal for his incredible food when we were at the Gorge and for his hospitality, what a lovely human being! Missing those fries! The Riad for the surf camp is utterly stunning and the surf instructors were so great! Shout out to Haitam for just being an around awesome and fun person to be around! A final shoutout to my group - they made this trip even more special! Highly recommend booking this trip - looking forward to the UK reunion.

Great trip, great variey of activities and great guides

If you have been thinking about booking this trip but haven’t made your mind up just go ahead and book it. I can’t re comment it enough, Dan and Natalie’s hospitality and enthusiasm really made our experience in the Todra gorge amazing. The climbing was perfectly tailored to suit complete beginners through to those with more experience, and what amazing views to enjoy at the top. After climbing yoga was such a good way to relieve the aches and pains and prepare for next action packed day. I recommend trying the sound bath, what a mystical experience that was! The second half of the trip changes gear slightly with a little more free time and some amazing meals accompanied by the surf camps menagerie of cats and dogs. Some brilliant surf instructors made for and all round great time by the coast.

A final shoutout to my group - they made this trip even more special! Highly recommend booking this trip - looking forward to the UK reunion.

  • Awesome

The hosts were amazing and very knowledgeable. They could tailor the day to your experience level, encouraging everyone to make the most of the trip but always happy to allow for some relaxation. The locations are spectacular and offer a unique experience. The itinerary was full but not overwhelming. The food and locations were incredible and allowed for the full Moroccon experience from the busy streets of Marrakech, to the calm climbing in Todgha George, the hot dunes of the Sahara and the long waves in Taghazout. This trip offers everything in one package for anyone looking to see Morocco and take on some adventure.
  • Unforgettable adventure with the most amazing people

    Ryan M. May 2025
Executive Summary This was the best trip I've ever been on. It was my first time in Morocco, I didn't know exactly what to expect. I just knew it would be an adventure. It surpassed all conceivable expectations. Every single day was packed with new people, experiences, excitement, laughs, magical moments, and spectacular scenery. To name just a few of the amazing people who made this trip so unforgettable, thank you so much to Natalie, Dan, Owain, Faisil, Courtney, Haitam, and Samad. If you're looking for an active adventure in a culture-rich, beautiful country, and to meet phenomenal people with awesome stories along the way - this is it. Organisation Flawless logistics and organisation from start to finish, everything was taken care of. No stress. This trip is fast-paced! Which is perfect for me, every moment was a new activity and new adventure. If you're looking for some chill downtime, that doesn't really kick in until you arrive in Tamraght. And even so, surfing is exhausting! The food I think I'm going to have tagine withdrawals. All the meals were traditional, hearty, and full of flavour. My all time favourites were a lentil dish in the Todra auberge, and a camel tagine in Tamraght. Plenty of great veggie options too. Try not to get addicted to Megachok. The hosts In Todra Gorge, Dan and Natalie were incredible. Knowledgeable, friendly, and just bursting with passion for the community, and showing what Morocco has to offer. The story of RocknYogi as a small business is beautiful and inspiring, and I encourage you to learn it for yourself. Owain is hilarious and an awesome guide, thanks for all the laughs and stories. You guys really showcased the local culture and way of life while making us feel welcome. In Tamraght, Courtney's Riad is spectacular. A beautiful oasis filled with lovely cats and dogs who like attention from guests. The staff were lovely and the meals, again, were amazing. Shout-out to the camel tagine which will probably be difficult to replicate back in the UK. The sports/activities You really don't need any experience. I had about 2 months of bouldering under my belt, I started in preparation for the trip in the hopes of strengthening my hands. But Dan and Owain were patient, and started from the very basics, teaching us all the key safety aspects of outdoor climbing. One thing I loved about their style is the focus on figuring things out for yourself - that's one of the joys of climbing. If someone gives you the answer before you start a route, you lose a bit of the accomplishment. That being said, they're always on hand to give tips and pointers where needed. In terms of yoga, I think I'd done it once or twice in my life beforehand. Natalie is a fantastic teacher and the sessions were very much needed after a long day climbing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shout-out to quite a spiritual session in the desert at sunrise. Definitely a pinch-me moment. For surfing, most of our group had never touched a surf board before. On day 1, every single one of us had caught a wave. Haitam and Samad taught us the basics, the safety, and threw us straight in the ocean. We were ripping it in no time.
  • The trip of a lifetime!

    Angelica O. May 2025
I can't state enough how amazing the trip to Morocco was. Everything, from the hosts, to the group, the activities, the food and the roads, every adpected exceeded my expectations. Dan and Natalie are incredible in their professionalism as well as their warmth. They made us feel at home from the first night. The climbing excellent, but it is so much more than a climbing trip. We were immersed in the local culture, felt welcomed and make memories to last a lifetime. The visit to the desert was magical, no words can make it justice. And the surfing camp was amazing, even for a total beginner like myself. I highly recommend this trip and can't wait to go back!
  • Action-packed Moroccan adventure

    Michael R. October 2024
A perfect itinerary for anyone looking for a really active trip while also experiencing a huge range of what Morocco has to offer. Natalie and Dan were fantastic hosts with great local connections and cultural insights, on top of being excellent climbing and yoga teachers. The whole trip was organised really well and is ideal for any level of experience, we had a range of climbing, surfing and yoga experience across our group and everyone was well supported. Would fully recommend!
  • Great full on activity holiday

    Karon F. October 2024
Wonderful combination of rock climbing, via feratta, sand boarding and surfing with a small amount of hiking thrown in. The locations provided some insight into Morocco with Marrakech, Tadra Gorge and Tamraght as examples of rural, city and seaside. Activities were timetabled well including travelling days to ensure a good pace. Beginners and experienced climbers and surfers were catered for alike with very experienced coaches. Food was plentiful and varied including veggie options. And of course the group I travelled with were incredible. Definitely recommend to all who welcome a personal challenge as the best way to enjoy a holiday!
  • Amazing!

Amazing fun filled 10 days that I would recommend to anyone looking for an adventure. From climbing cliff faces in the mountains, sandboarding and yoga in the desert, to surfing on the coast. Lovely places to stay - very well organised and great communication from hosts Natalie and Dan 👍
  • Incredible trip!

Such an amazing time on this trip. Brilliant group who got on well, food & accommodation were great. All parts of the trip were well organised, from pick up at the airport to being dropped back off again. Incredible place to climb and surf, and got to explore so much of Morocco throughout the trip. Would certainly recommend to others and looking forward to booking my next MBA adventure.

FAQs

Drinkable water is collected from the gorge while you are out and about – and water bottles can be filled up at each accommodation, so please bring reusable bottles as they will be well used.

You will need to bring your own climbing shoes. If you don't have already, these can be bought for approximately £30 from Decathlon or similar. You should buy those that fit comfortably in the shop – don't follow advice for them to be extra tight or a smaller shoe size than you would normally wear – your feet will swell with the heat in Morocco anyway, so finding a pair that fit like normal shoes and no tighter is important.

Ramadan is expected to take place from 17th February to 19th March 2026. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.

This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.

Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.

Todra Gorge is known for long dry months usually from February to November. In February to March, daytime temperatures sit around 15-20°C and drop to below 10°C at night. April and May will be a bit warmer, usually around 25°C in the day but again, cooler at night. The months of June-August are too hot to run the trip so it resumes again in September when daytime temperatures can still hit 30°C. It starts to cool a little in October and November, then becomes too cold for climbing in December and January. Moroccan heat is dry as so much of the landscape is desert – rainfall is rare in the months the trips runs, but isn't unheard of. If you do experience rain it is likely to be short and sharp.

The weather in Taghazout aligns with the arid conditions of the region, with mild temperatures and pleasant conditions. From February to November, you can expect dry weather, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15-30°C. The coastal influence moderates the climate, providing a more comfortable atmosphere compared to the inland Todra Gorge. Rainfall is infrequent during the months when trips are conducted, and if rain does occur, it tends to be brief and invigorating, offering a welcomed respite from the typical dry heat of the Moroccan landscape.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 341kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
