You should arrive any time the day before the start date and book a hotel of your choice in the Chamonix area. There are regular buses from Geneva Airport and Geneva Bus Station to Chamonix, which take around an hour. Your host will be able to recommend an airport transfer company. Travel options

Air travellers can fly into Geneva Airport (GVA) which is approximately one hour from Chamonix. Alternatively, you can fly into Milan Airport (LIN) about three hours from Chamonix.

For those who wish to avoid flying, why not travel by train instead? The Alps

Stay

The Alps

You’ll stay in remote mountain refuges and traditional guesthouses. Groups usually stay in:

  • Day 1: Gite Le Pontet (Les Contamines)
  • Day 2: Refuge Mottets, Chambres du Soleil, Base Camp Lodge or Auberge Nova (Les Chapieux, Bourg St Maurice)
  • Day 3: Rifugio Monte Bianco (Val Veny)
  • Day 4: Hotel Croux (Courmayeur)
  • Day 5: Rifugio Bonatti (Val Ferret)
  • Day 6: Auberge Maya Joie (La Fouly)
  • Day 7: Relais d'Arpette (Champex)
  • Day 8: Refuge Le Peuty or Hotel Forclaz (Trient)
  • Day 9: Gite le Moulin (Argentière)

The accommodation is simple, clean and comfortable, and there is a variety of accommodation options used throughout the hiking season. Groups typically sleep in mixed dormitory rooms of up to 20 persons, usually in bunk or single beds. They feature hot showers, running water, pillows and blankets, and a bar serving cold drinks. Most refuges also have outlets for charging your electronics, and some even have WiFi. Some refuges are more modern in style, others have a more traditional heritage, most are busy throughout the hiking season; it's the refuge's location and its remoteness that largely decides what comforts and conveniences are available. It's best to keep your expectations simple and enjoy the time on the trail to unplug from everyday life. Each of the mountain huts listed is the first choice option, but will be subject to availability. Where alternate accommodation is required, it will be of a similar style and standard.

Food and Dietary info

Breakfasts and dinners will be served at the refuges. Breakfasts always include coffee, bread, jam and butter. Depending on the refuge, they may also include orange juice, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, cheese and meats. Dinners are hearty and served in large portions – just what a hungry hiker needs! Typical meals include a soup starter, a main course of meat and veggies with a side of grains or pasta, and a dessert like vanilla pudding or creme brûlée. Picnic lunches will be provided each day, featuring a large main item like a sandwich or wrap, a salad, and a selection of fruit, muesli bars, chocolate, nuts, etc.

Vegetarian, vegan and most other dietary requirements (including gluten-free) can be catered for with advanced notice. Just let your host know when booking. Whilst dietary needs are sent to each refuge with the group reservations, please consider that the mountain refuges will have a limited range of choice to offer guests due to their remote locations. People with very specific dietary requirements typically choose to also bring some of their own snacks with them to ensure they have sufficient fuel for hiking up and down the beautiful mountain trails.

Trip level explained

Level 5

Challenging

This trip is suitable for experienced hikers in good shape. You'll need to be able to hike 15–20km on mountain trails, with as much as 1000m of elevation gain and descent, each day. You will be carrying your own overnight pack between the refuges, (unless you book the luggage transfer service - see Optional Extras), so should be confident hiking with a 30-50L pack for multiple days. Doing some practice hikes before the trip with your pack and boots is strongly recommended to help you prepare for this adventure!

What will I need to carry?

If you would prefer to just hike with a small day pack, don't want to think about your luggage and what to pack, there is a luggage transfer service available for a fee (See Optional Extras). The luggage transportation service is available on 8 out of 9 nights: this means you'll need to carry things for just one overnight stay, on the 5th night at Rifugio Bonatti as there is no road access (although you won't need to carry all your luggage, just an overnight bag). The rest of your luggage gets transported during the day to the next destination. You'll need to pack your luggage in a duffle bag, to prevent any damage or loss to your belongings. There is a size restriction of the bags but the weight is limited to 15kg per bag.

See Optional Extras for prices.

High Altitude Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations at or above 2500m. At this altitude some people may experience symptoms associated with Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Previous experience at high altitude is not necessarily an indicator of future performance. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with altitude by carefully managing the rate of ascent and the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided. Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover up to the maximum altitude visited on this trip as well as emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

A truly wonderful 10 days with the best group of people I could have asked for! The mountains are beautiful in the fall — highly recommend going in September for cooler temps and gorgeous fall colors. Can’t speak more highly of this trip and our guide, Val!

Really enjoyed this tour - it was well organised, smooth communication with the organiser before and after the trip, comfortable accommodation, delicious food and great leader. We were 12 people in the group, the leader made sure everyone was comfortable with the pace, there were also times that we could walk at our own pace when the route allowed. Mountain huts were cosy and clean, all had hot showers and amount of food (3 courses every night!) exceeded my expectations. Just to mention, lunch packs included chocolate bars, biscuits, apples and other snacks (varied by days) - this was more than sufficient for days hikes, also, there was access to supermarkets several days and cafes on the way - would recommend to be mindful with bringing your own snacks as I wasn't able to consume mine over 10 days :) Our tour leader Nick was very experienced, knowledgeable, organised and friendly - he kept us informed on the plan for the following days, what to expect and how to prepare. He knew the area very well but did not overload us with information, however, if asked, would generously share tips and recommendations. Couldn't have asked for a better leader. And finally, the group of people that joined this tour was amazing - feeling grateful to have shared this experience with everyone, one of the best trips I've ever had!

Just returned from this trek yesterday and couldn’t be happier. Our guide, Azu, was astonishing. Everything planned with military precision, constant support, always smiling and unforgettable impressions of every animal we passed (the Swiss Black cows were a particular favourite). One dozen strangers quickly became friends and the group dynamic was near perfect. It’s worth saying that to enjoy this trek you need to be open to some discomfort. . some of the mixed dorms are “bijou Rodney, bijou” but that all added to the experience for me. Life changing experience and I have returned a happy chap.
  • Experience and Fun Guide

    Feng C. August 2025
Having a tour guide knows all the in and out of the alps really makes a difference. While being active helps on this trip, but this is a 10 day, 102 miles of grueling up and downs. You will be exhausted all the time after day one and continue in that state for the next 9 days. Our tour guide teaches us how to hike better in challenge sections, how to conserve energy, and at time when we walk through avalanche zone, she showed us how to and where to step. I feel we avoid a lot of shady situations with our guide as she continues to provide good judgement calls. Of course, she challenges our limit as well, base off the groups comfort level, we went to a lot of variation, which is such a fun and unique experience. Trust me, as a first time TMB goer, you won't opt for that as some of the trails are non-existent to first timer.

Great for mountain scenery, balance of gentler and more challenging sections. A variety of interesting accommodations. Great to have Oli leading and dining with us. The group was fun and well balanced
  • Amazing experience!

    Cameron W. August 2025
From start to finish the views are absolutely incredible. The days were challenging but our guide, Ninon, was excellent and ensured the enjoyment and most importantly safety of everyone in the group (and others along the trail!). There was a massive mix of ages (21-70), and almost everyone was a solo traveller, everyone got on well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Book onto this trip, you will not regret it.
  • Great experience

    Delfina A. July 2025
This tour around Mont Blanc was truly a wonderful experience. The landscapes were absolutely breathtaking and stunning throughout. The trip was also very well organized, and our guide, Ninon, was fantastic. She made sure everyone was enjoying themselves while staying safe along the trail. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a memorable adventure. It was slightly challenging at times, but definitely worth it!
  • Amazing views, challenging hike!

    Bella J. July 2025
I had a great time on the TMB - the first few days were hard, but once we got into the rhythm (and thanks to some shorter days) it got easier! We had a great guide - who was both knowledgable and patient, which made a huge difference to the trip.

Every. Single. Day. was filled with epic views which made the work of the hike worth it. The hike and logistics were well-handled. I would recommend this trip!
  • May the sun shine …

    Jonathan H. July 2025
The trek is correctly described as “challenging”, you need endurance, but we were blessed with great weather, a vibrant group and an inspirational guide. Stating the obvious, but good weather gives heavenly views, in turn making the trek seem shorter and offsetting the 10 day absence of sleep, vegetables and most creature comforts. We were lucky.
  • An unforgettable adventure

    Kirsty D. July 2025
We had good weather and a capable group, so we were able to do the Col des Tricot, Col des Fours and Fenêtre d'Arpette variants (well worth the effort!). Aranxta, our guide, went above and beyond to make sure the everyone was supported. Accommodation/food quality was mixed but a good choice for the budget conscious traveller, and always in spectacular locations. Luggage transfer option was appreciated. Note: you need to factor in an extra unguided day if you want complete the full circuit, finishing back at the official starting point in Les Houches.
  • Exceeded expecations

    William N. July 2025
Everything went right. Guide was knowledgeable, patient and kind, weather was fantastic, flowers were in boom, group dynamic was cohesive and supportive, accommodation was as expected and fun, etc etc. . . couldn't have asked for more from this trip. One piece of advice for future hikers, go in June! Weather is cooler (still warm), water is high, flowers are in bloom and peak crowds have not arrived yet. Can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this trip.
  • Great experience

    Dang T. June 2025
The trek was amazing and much better than I could imagine. We were super lucky with conditions as well in mid June (still considered early season) as it didn't rain and the weather was perfect. Our guide, Pavel, was awesome and was very knowledgable about the route, on top of being just a cool person. The group was composed of all solo travelers and we all got along great. Would recommend!
  • Tour du Mont Blanc over 10 days

    Paul K. June 2025
A wonderful experience walking around the Mt Blanc Massif with a great group of enthusiastic hikers. We had a brilliant local guide Pavel, (Happy Tracks) who was always patient, organised and kept the group together putting our safety first. Plan carefully and test all gear on some long hikes beforehand is the best advice I could give!
  • Great trip with a great group of people

    Garry B. June 2025
A fantastic experience, helped by mostly very good weather and a well matched group of people. The guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Each day's walk was well paced with distance and climbs that left us tired at the end of the day but not exhausted. I would highly recommend Much Better Adventures to anyone who wants to walk the TMB.
  • Fantastic trip, highly recommend

    Lauren M. June 2025
Had an absolutely fantastic time hiking the Tour Du Mont Blanc - everything was organised so well, I didn’t have to worry about anything except turning up at the start (and keep putting one foot in front of the other!). I joined the tour as a solo traveller and made fantastic friends. There was a range of ages (27-61 on my trip) which is great and everyone was lovely. I was worried at the start that I might not be able to keep up with everyone, it’s a challenging trek and a good level of fitness is required. However our guide Pavel was absolutely fantastic, he kept the group together well, set a great pace which meant everyone could cope well and he was super friendly. We stayed in a mixture of dormitories, a hotel and mountain huts, which also mostly have other trekkers staying in them. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are provided which is great too. The information and kit list Much Better Adventures provides is fantastic and tells you everything you need to know. This is my first MBA tour but I’ll definitely be booking more.
  • Incredible trip, wonderful group, fun and motivating guide!

    Carrie S. June 2025
I had the best time on the trek! Our guide, Nick, was funny, motivating, welcoming and friendly, keeping us on track and paying attention to the needs of the group. He hit some absolutely amazing weather windows for us and made even the rainy days a fun adventure. Our group was hilarious and supportive - everyone looked out for one another and came together to help push each other through the difficult portions of the trail. Accommodations were comfortable, and the bunk beds/communal rooms were absolutely part of the fun. Nick prepared some INCREDIBLE picnic lunches for us on several of the days and the refuges prepared pack lunches on the other days that were great as well. Dinners at the Refugios were fine, some better than others, but always filling and hearty, and it was so wonderful to be able to grab beers with the group when we got back to the Refugio’s and share some laughs about the day. We did the luggage transfer service and it was so convenient and really helped out on what would otherwise have been an extremely challenging trek for us as less-experienced hikers. 10/10, would recommend to anyone! Highly recommend working out/training your ankles/feet for the off-camber trails - I think that would have helped a lot.

FAQs

Yes. Excess luggage not required on the trip can be stored. There is a storage fee of 25.00 EUR per bag which needs to be stored during the hike. This can be paid in cash at the time. Please let your host know in advance if you have excess luggage so that they can plan the logistics accordingly.

For this itinerary there is 1 guide to 10 hikers. The guides this host works with are all International Mountain Leader certified (as a minimum), First Aid trained and are highly experienced at leading groups in the Alps.

This trip visits locations at or above 2500m, where some people may experience symptoms of Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Previous experience at altitude doesn’t guarantee the same response again – your body can react differently on each trip. However, having been at altitude before is still valuable: it gives you a better understanding of how your body might respond, what symptoms to look out for, and how to manage your pace and energy levels.

Your guide is trained to manage the risk of altitude sickness by controlling the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and responding appropriately if anyone feels unwell.

Before booking, we recommend considering your personal health, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions, and consulting a medical professional if you’re unsure. Arriving early to allow your body to acclimatise can also make a big difference.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).

For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

The Tour du Mont Blanc trekking season is from June to September. Summer around Mont Blanc is generally warm and fair, but the weather can change very quickly in the high mountains, bringing cold rain and wind. Average temperatures range from 6 to 26 °C. It rains roughly half of the days each month, but storms generally pass through quickly. There can be snow on the mountain passes at the start of the season. Even in the peak of summer you can have very mixed conditions, especially when climbing over the high mountain passes above 2000m. Heatwaves have also been a feature of recent European summers. Our kit list is intended to guide you on what to pack for this trip.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 149kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
