After meeting the other crew members you'll start your trek, passing through the prosperous village of Lukla before reaching Phakding on the Dudh Kosi River. You'll spend the night in the village and should have time to visit some of the nearby monasteries.

Occasionally Lukla flights can be delayed or cancelled - please see the FAQs for further information.

One of the (many) bridges is the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge with a particularly epic viewpoint of the gleaming Mount Thamserku (6618 m). From here you'll continue through the village of Jorsale before a challenging uphill climb to Namche Bazaar, where you'll get your first glimpse of Everest.

Instead, there’s the opportunity to hike to a nearby viewpoint and enjoy mammoth vistas of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse...we could go on. On the way back, you’ll walk around the Khumjung valley and have the chance to visit the Hillary School and Khunde Hospital, before heading back for the night.

    On the trek

Generally, most adventures to Nepal are in remote areas where the accommodation will be basic. On the trek you will stay in 'teahouses' – mountain lodges that tend to have a communal dining area and basic toilets.

The rooms are sorted by gender – however, if there is an odd number in the group they may occasionally be mixed. There’s no heating, so you'll need your warm sleeping bag. WiFi and hot showers are often available at a small cost. You can usually charge your phone up, again, you guessed it, for a cost. So remember to take an adapter.

Breakfast is usually either hot porridge, muesli or Tibetan bread served with an omelette or boiled eggs. The menus in the teahouses are very similar at every stop and there will usually be a choice of traditional Nepalese dhal bhat (a mixed plate of…

Food and Dietary info

Breakfast is usually either hot porridge, muesli or Tibetan bread served with an omelette or boiled eggs. The menus in the teahouses are very similar at every stop and there will usually be a choice of traditional Nepalese dhal bhat (a mixed plate of lentils, rice, vegetables and pickles - delicious and healthy), Nepalese dumplings (momos), mixed noodles, pasta and even pizza. Although meat is available at some teahouses, we suggest you ask your guide for advice about consumption as it tends to depend on how far it has travelled as to whether it is a safe option.

Dairy-free, vegan or vegetarian diets can be catered for while trekking although meals may get a bit repetitive - dhal bhat will likely be your go-to staple. Gluten-free/coeliac diets are tricky to cater for on teahouse treks (beware that powdered soups and seasonings used often contain gluten, and cooking oil is commonly reused and may cause cross-contamination). Please explain your dietary requirements to your guide so that they can assist when ordering, and bringing along some extra food/snacks is advisable.

Trip level explained

Level 5

Challenging

Much of the trek is within the capabilities of people with a good fitness who are keen trekkers. Still, it is important to note that trekking at altitudes above 3000m is more demanding on the body than walking at low elevations. Some training beforehand will help and we advise doing at least one weekend of back-to-back days walking. The guide will set the pace and as with all altitude treks, the theme is ‘slowly slowly’ to help you adjust to the altitude.

What will I need to carry?

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 20-25kg of kit in total, so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 12kg per person). You will only need to carry a daypack with essentials in – extra layers, snacks, water, suncream, camera etc.

High Altitude Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations at or above 4500m. At this altitude some people may experience symptoms associated with Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). The likelihood of more severe conditions, such as HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema), increases at higher altitudes. Previous experience at high altitude is not necessarily an indicator of future performance. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with altitude by carefully managing the rate of ascent and the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided. Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover up to the maximum altitude visited on this trip as well as emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

Highly Remote Environments: Factors to consider

This trip travels through very remote areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited and evacuation may take a significant amount of time. In some locations, medical facilities may provide only basic treatment, and further travel may be required to reach a hospital capable of providing more advanced care.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, evacuation may involve multiple stages and different forms of transport before reaching appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may be unreliable for significant portions of this trip and communication may rely on satellite devices carried by your guides.

Your guides are trained and experienced in operating in remote environments and will manage the group carefully throughout the journey. However, due to the remoteness of these locations, access to external support may be limited and delays to medical care should be expected.

Before booking, consider your personal health and comfort travelling in locations where medical care and evacuation options may be limited or delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling. If you have a medical condition that may require rapid access to specialist care, regular monitoring, or emergency treatment, this type of remote travel may not be suitable without careful planning and medical advice.

Your travel insurance must cover the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation.

This trek to Everest Base Camp was hands down the best experience of my entire life, and it is entirely due to how incredible our guide team was. Ooter, Pujan, BBC, and Lama were absolutely spectacular from start to finish. They were so incredibly patient, attentive, and dedicated to making sure everyone in our group was safe and having the time of their lives. Beyond just managing the trek flawlessly, they went above and beyond when I experienced a medical emergency on the mountain. They took better care of me than my own parents probably would have! Their care, expertise, and reassurance completely turned what could have been a scary situation into a moment where I felt entirely supported. They didn't just guide us; they created the best memories I will ever have. If you are booking this trip, pray that you get Ooter, Pujan, BBC, and Lama. They are the absolute best in the business!

I approached the trek with some trepidation, not only because I had never done anything like this before but also, when I met the other participants, that I realised most were less than half my age. Very quickly though my fears were dispelled, the rest of the group were tremendous fun, Pujan was so reassuring and I was immediately made to feel very much at home. The days’ trekking took us through magnificent scenery and it was very obvious that each stage had been carefully planned with breaks for tea and lunch just when we needed them. What really made the trek memorable however was the quality, expertise and empathy of the guides. The lead guide Pujan was quite extraordinarily wonderful; his knowledge of Nepal, its people and history was encyclopaedic, he immediately knew the name and height of every peak we encountered, he recognised and empathised with all of the different characters in the group. He could have in depth and serious conversations about the Himalayas, about life, about his family and a second later would join in some hilarious story from one of the jokers in the group. I had the misfortune to have a slight illness for a few days and Pujan was clearly very concerned, insisted on accompanying me to the doctor and made sure that I was on the road to recovery. I really don’t know how to praise Pujan enough and I can only say that Much Better Adventures should consider itself extremely fortunate that they have the benefit of his expertise and character. I was relating the story of the trek to a friend who would like to do the trip next year and I have told him to make sure that Pujan is the leader if he does sign up. Pujan’s approach was reflected in his assistant guides, Lama, Uthan and BBC. All had their roles and again they carried out their duties to perfection. They seemed to anticipate our needs before we knew them ourselves, they were constantly on the alert to ensure that we were safe and well fed and watered and for example one day I dropped my sunglasses and was about to step on them when Lama swooped in and handed them to me before I realised they had fallen! Uthan (I hope this is spelt correctly) was charming and good humoured at all times and perfectly calculated all of the bills for the endless cups of hot chocolate and extra plates of chips. I will never be able to thank BBC enough for carrying my day bag along with his own heavy load when I was ill and even when I had recovered he was hovering to make sure I was well. Each of the three assistant guides was unfailingly in good humour and they clearly enjoyed their trip as much as we did. BBC said to us at the end of the trip how much he loved Nepal and reminded us that it was a very small country. I agreed with him but I think he could have added that although it was a small country it has a very big heart. We really only saw the other assistants who brought our heavy bags between stops at the beginning and end of the trip but once again they carried out their task impeccably with the luggage appearing as if by magic outside our doors each evening. An unforgettable trip with incredible experiences and scenery but made so much more special by the characteristics of Pujan, BBC, Uthan and Lama who saw to our every need throughout.

Highly recommend booking this trip through much better adventures as the quality of service was next level. I was lucky to have Pujan as my lead guide who was very friendly from the start and I couldn’t stop laughing by the end, his genuine care for each member of the team was very reassuring that we were in good hands. The assistant guides Uttar, Bibachan and Lama were also great and all made an effort to get to know each member of the team and were working around the clock, like Pujan, to make sure everyone was satisfied. The genuine love and care provided by each member of the staff really made the trip the adventure of a lifetime, and they were very knowledgeable about region so could answer any questions you had too. Another thanks goes to the supporting staff Harka, Pancha, Dal, Langa and Bal who despite having the tough jobs of carrying our bags up the mountains always had a smile on their faces and a friendly hello whenever we saw them. The scenery was insane, the staff were incredible, the group was hilarious. I’d highly recommend to anyone unsure on which trek to book or who to book through, choose MBA!

Completing the Everest Base Camp trek was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. From the suspension bridges and Sherpa villages to standing beneath the shadow of Everest itself, every single day felt surreal. The mountains humble you, test you, and somehow heal you at the same time. A huge part of this incredible journey was because of our amazing guides — Pujan, Utar, Lama, and Bibishan. Their knowledge of the mountains, constant encouragement, patience, and care made the trek not only safe but truly memorable. Whether it was motivating us on tough climbs, checking on our health at altitude, or sharing stories and laughs along the trail, they went above and beyond every single day. The Himalayas are beautiful, but it’s the people who make Nepal unforgettable. Grateful for every step, every conversation, and every memory made on this journey. Highly recommend this trek and this team to anyone dreaming of Everest Base Camp.

We couldn't have asked for more with this incredible experience. Our leader Pujan was the most incredible, caring and knowledgeable guide. He took amazing genuine care of us, as did our 3 assistant guides BBC, Utter and Llama (spelt wrong, sorry!) They all dealt with challenges with real care and empathy. The supporters who carried our bags were also extremely lovely. Pujan provided us with lots of fantastic 'guidance' to keep ourselves safe and well regarding the challenges of the mountain. Altitude is no joke! The views are absolutely phenomenal and this is a once in a lifetime experience. The group was really varied and great. We felt like a big family by the end of it. Nepal is THE best country and Kathmamdhu is super fun. Can't wait to return. Trek was challenging in parts mainly due to altitude/lack of sleep, but wasn't that bad. If in doubt, just book!

  • Steven D.

A well organised trip with a brilliant team looking after us on the mountains made this a brilliant trip. I cannot praise Tejshree, Sebika enough, supported by Suman, Dawar and Langa. Accommodation and food top notch. Birdlife on the trek was amazing. Pack binoculars.

  • William D.

Great trip, wonderful scenery and all round amazing experience. The guides really made it memorable, Tejshree was fun and shared her immense knowledge with us; we could see other groups getting jealous of her maps! Sebika was the best pace setter we could ask for and she had an amazing sense of humour and was all around very cool 😎 our supporters, Dawa, Suman and Lanka were also great

This was easily the most challenging trip I've ever done in my life, and I LOVED it. The Freedom Adventures team are exceptional; they make even the hard days enjoyable. Their approach to trekking is so so kind, taking each day slowly slowly. I felt like I was in a safe pair of hands: all I had to do was concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other; they looked after everything else. Bir and Lhakpa were fantastic guides: I honestly can't rave about them enough. They looked after me when I felt pants with altitude sickness, climbed out of windows to point out Mt Everest when she appeared for the first time, and made me giggle along the route. Two of us realised our waterproof stuff wasn't quite so waterproof, and ponchos appeared to keep us dry. The supporting staff (Aayush, Kishan and Prabesh) were brilliant and indispensable. I was genuinely in awe when I was struggling to keep walking, and they waltz past with 25kg on their backs! They made the trip seamless, and stepped up into guiding roles where required (helping when one of us got bad altitude sickness). The trek itself was harder than I thought, but I don't regret signing up one bit. We're all so much more resilient and capable than we think, and this is an incredible opportunity to prove it to yourself (just trying to encourage anyone who's got a bit of imposter syndrome). I think if you're thinking about it, you should do it. There's no other way to scratch the itch, and I'd recommend Freedom Adventures to anyone who wants to.

As I write this review, I feel overcome with feelings of gratitude for the amazing time I had at the Everest Base Camp trek during April-May of 2026. The views, the people, the challenge - it was exactly what I needed and more. Big thank you to Lhakpa and Birdhoj for being the most resourceful, kind and supportive guides.

  • Benjamin M.

Fantastic time on the trek to Everest Base Camp. I really liked the itenary especially the 4 days when trekking back down rather than the standard 3 days. Views are spectacular and the guides are very knowledgeable and also alot of fun. (Thankyou Tej & Sebika)

  • Walking Among Giants – Everest Base Camp 🇳🇵🏔️

    Benson B. May 2026
Completing the Everest Base Camp trek was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
  • Once in a lifetime experience

    Sorcha D. May 2026
We couldn't have asked for more with this incredible experience.
  • Experience of a lifetime

    Steven D. May 2026
A well organised trip with a brilliant team looking after us on the mountains made this a brilliant trip. I cannot praise Tejshree, Sebika enough, supported by Suman, Dawar and Langa. Accommodation and food top notch. Birdlife on the trek was amazing. Pack binoculars.
  • Great trip, wonderful scenery and

    William D. May 2026
Great trip, wonderful scenery and all round amazing experience. The guides really made it memorable, Tejshree was fun and shared her immense knowledge with us; we could see other groups getting jealous of her maps! Sebika was the best pace setter we could ask for and she had an amazing sense of humour and was all around very cool 😎 our supporters, Dawa, Suman and Lanka were also great
  • Outstanding

    Maya P. May 2026
This was easily the most challenging trip I've ever done in my life, and I LOVED it.
  • The best experience of my life

As I write this review, I feel overcome with feelings of gratitude for the amazing time I had at the Everest Base Camp trek during April-May of 2026. The views, the people, the challenge - it was exactly what I needed and more. Big thank you to Lhakpa and Birdhoj for being the most resourceful, kind and supportive guides.

  • The Trip of a Lifetime – Everest Base Camp Done Right

    Samuel B. May 2026
The Everest Base Camp Trek with Much Better Adventures is definitely one to remember. From the moment we landed in Kathmandu, everything was flawlessly organised. Airport transfers, the hotel in the centre of Thamel—every detail was handled perfectly. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by our lead guide, Pujan. He’s one of those people you instantly connect with. I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Not only did he settle any nerves, but he made us feel safe and supported every step of the way. His positivity and passion are truly inspiring, and something I’ll carry with me into everyday life. Our flights from Manthali to Lukla could have been stressful, but Pujan’s calm attitude and leadership made the whole experience run smoothly. When we landed in Lukla, we met our assistant guides, Lhakpa and Lama—both absolute diamonds. They’re already incredibly passionate, safety-focused, and well on their way to becoming outstanding lead guides themselves. We were also introduced to our incredible support staff: Aayush, Mahesh, and Narmani. These guys are phenomenal. Their physical strength is obvious, but it’s their mental resilience and intelligence that really stood out. The trek simply wouldn’t have been the same without them. The trekking itself is a challenge, but as long as you listen to the highly experienced team, you’re in safe hands. Their knowledge of the mountains, culture, religion, food, safety, and environment adds so much depth to the entire experience. There were a couple of standout highlights for me. First, our time in Tengboche—from visiting the monastery to waking up and seeing Mount Everest from our bedroom window. Truly unforgettable. Second, climbing Kala Patthar for sunset—the silence, the atmosphere, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. I’d highly recommend this optional hike. In summary, if you’re considering booking this trip with Much Better Adventures—do it. You won’t regret it for a second. Listen to your guides, embrace every moment, and take it all in… because it will be over far too quickly. I only hope you’re lucky enough to have Pujan as your lead guide as well—because he truly makes the experience unforgettable.

This trip was an incredible experience, I've never done anything like it! It was my first experience of the Himalayas and trekking at altitude, and exceeded all my expectations. Our lead guide Pujan was the perfect leader for us; he shared his knowledge of the mountains and local culture, he rallied us when things were tough and he kept us entertained throughout. He and our assistant guides Lhakpa and Lama were what really made this trip work. Cannot recommend them highly enough! We were super lucky with the weather throughout the trip and were rewarded with stunning views from the moment we woke up - one morning we could see Everest from our room in Tengboche! The trekking was tough at times, and I struggled at high altitude, but our guides made me feel safe and supported throughout. So glad I did this trip. If you're thinking about it. . . just book it!

I trekked to EBC with Much Better Adventures in April 2026 and it was the trip of a lifetime! The trip was truly so well organized and the team took care of us so well so that we had nothing to worry about in the mountains and could focus on taking in the whole experience. I felt so lucky to have trekked with such an incredible team during my trip. Our lead guide Pujan was incredibly passionate about the mountains. He was so enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the land and culture with the group and always ensured we were safe during the trek. Additionally, our group had amazing assistant guides, Lhakpa and Lama, that were so positive to be around and amazing companions for the long days on the trails. Also, the trek would not have been possible without Himal behind the scenes and the supporting staff of Aayush, Mahesh, and Narmani. This team helped lead an amazing trip and gave memories that will last a lifetime. I'm grateful to have trekked with them and I would definitely recommend booking a trip to EBC with Much Better Adventures!

    Paul G. April 2026
Its is a pleasure to write a review for our trip to EBC with Kev (guide and team leader) and Team. The team really was a team. The porters were the bedrock of all the possible activity and without them we not have moved from Kathmandu. Kev kept us informed, motivated and driven. . . yet, successfully used humour, sensitivity and good planning to bond the group. Sevika and Lakpa were equally amazing. . . always organised, helpful, supportive and good humoured. I have recommend this team to many of my friends!
  • More than I could have ever hoped for

    Katrine L. April 2026
The trek to Everest Base Camp with Freedom Adventures has been absolutely amazing and one of the greatest adventures I have ever been on. Most of the credit for that, I owe to our guides (Sanjeet and his crew); these guys were incredible! They took such good care of everyone in the group, were so attentive, and especially if someone was under pressure, sick or not feeling well, they did a huge effort to help them through. They were so experienced, knew all about the terrain and nature, and I felt save all the way through this quite challenging trek. Furthermore, they were so dedicated to their jobs and really wanted to share all their knowledge about Nepalese nature, people and culture. Really inspiring and I learned so much about Nepal as well! All in all, it has been and incredible and unforgettable trip, with amazing guides and an amazing group. Views, nature, people, culture. . all of it was more than I could have hoped for! Thank you, Much Better Adventures and Freedom Adventures!

  • Challenging and Rewarding - EBC March 26

    Emma Y. April 2026
I booked this trip with just 2 months to go before the start date, a fit and avid walker with a keen sense of adventure I decided I wanted to make the most of a sabbatical Id given myself before starting a new job.   Leaving my family and husband at home (this was my bucket list adventure and not theirs), and heading off as a solo (older) female traveller, I was certainly going to be pushing my comfort zones, but from the minute I booked the trip, I knew I was in great hands.   The communication with MBA from day 1 of booking was fantastic, any question was answered quickly, the information provided was detailed and and covers everything you need for this adventure of a lifetime!   On arriving at Katmandu and meeting the group, it was clear that the organisation and planning was 5* and all eventualities are covered and carefully thought through.   The guides from Freedom Adventures are absolutely incredible and certainly make the trip, their experience, knowledge and support from the minute of meeting them all the way through the trip to the minute they say goodbye at the final dinner is nothing short of incredible.   Not only do they do trekking at a 5* level, their customer service and care and attention along the trail, which can often be overlooked is 5* too.   The trekking is difficult and challenging and full of culture, the views are out of this world, the tea houses are basic and part of the experience,  and of course don't underestimate the climbs and altitude you have to gain, but Freedom Adventure's fun and supportive approach to the day to day challenges means that the whole experience is one of the most rewarding things you might ever get chance to do. The group dynamic was so much fun too, and our shared experiences also made this trip, we had such a laugh each day. I was challenged with altitude sickness but with the care and attention of the guides was able to still enjoy the trip and make it one of the most amazing adventures I've done.   Sanjeet as head guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, patient and gentle hearted and under his meticulous direction, led his team, Sebika and Benza with the right level of attention to detail that adds so much to the trip. Their smiling faces, their knowledge about the trail, their level of support at all times and especially when you arrive at your tea-house destination tired and weary, they are there to help you with what you need to succeed.   The wonderful porters who carry your bags are also part of this wonderful community that are warm hearted and a pleasure to meet.   I learned so much about the people, the culture, the heart of Nepal and the Everest Region that I would love to return.   I certainly recommend anyone who is considering this trek to book with the confidence and knowledge you are in safe hands with both MBA and Freedom Adventures.
  • An unforgettable trip with old friends and meeting new friends

    Brett D. April 2026
Sanjeet & Himal and the entire Freedom Adventures team, in partnership with Much Better Adventures, took what could have been just a trek and turned it into a hike, a journey, and an unforgettable experience all in one. I rarely get emotional, but as we were approaching Everest Base Camp, something just took over me in the best way possible. It was powerful. The staff was absolutely incredible. They weren't just guides. . . they were storytellers. Extremely wise, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer any question and if they didn't have the answer, they would go find it. More importantly, they are genuinely kind, big-hearted people. What stood out the most was the sense of safety. This isn't just a place where you're handed a guide and sent off. These guides are highly experienced, equipped with first aid, and know the terrain inside and out. You feel protected. Knowing that if something went wrong, you had people there who could truly take care of you was incredibly reassuring. . . especially on a trek like Everest. Honestly, they even put my mom's worries at ease. . . which says everything. This was a trip of a lifetime. It pushed me, no doubt, but | always knew I had someone there to lean on. There are so many examples of them going above and beyond, but one that really stands out: someone in our group left her earrings at a tea house. Two hours later when she realized, one of the guides literally handed off their pack, ran all the way back to retrieve them, and then ran back to rejoin us. That level of care is rare. There's truly no tip that could reflect how grateful I am or how special they made this experience for me.

An amazing experience, organised by an expert local team. Thank you to our guide (Sanjeet) and support staff (Subika; Benza) who were outstanding and provided a service far beyond expectations. You were all brilliant and I will remember this trip for many years to come.
  • Amazing time

    Hector W. March 2026
The trek was amazing. All of the staff from our main guide Kush to the supporting staff Bikhalal, Aayush and Dhankumar as well as our assistant guide Tashi leading the way really helped make this trek one to remember for a lifetime. My favourite part was the learning about Nepali culture, politics and folk lore at “story time” every night after dinner. I would 100% recommend this trek for anyone in nepal.

    Chloe B. March 2026
Completing the EBC trek was an unforgettable experience. The scenery is breathtaking, everyday the landscape changed and it felt truly surreal at times. A huge part of what made the trek so special was our amazing team. Our lead guide Kush and assistant guide Tashi were fantastic from start to finish. From teaching us how to play Dumbal (maybe the wrong spelling), to our evening storytimes. Their professionalism, knowledge, humour and care for the group made the EBC trek an unforgettable experience and we are so grateful to them. A massive thanks also to our incredible support staff Bikhalal, Aayush and Dhankumar, they were amazing, never not smiling and we couldn't have done any of it without them. The booking process was also easy and seamless, with the team Himal and Geeta always replying quickly to any questions we had leading up to the trip, and making the whole process smooth. It meant we could focus on enjoying ourselves and not worry about logistics Overall I would highly recommend the EBC trek and feel very lucky to have experienced it

What an amazing experience I had on my trek to Everest base camp. I would highly recommend booking this adventure. Our Leader Kushahari Phuyal was exceptional and helped to make the experience so much better. His incredible knowledge of everything to do with the trek and his ability to answer any question we had coupled with his brilliant sense of humour and friendly nature made him the perfect leader for our trip. Tashi Sherpa was our assistant guide and he was an excellent part of the team working really well with Kush. Every day he worked tirelessly and with a smile on his face to make sure our team had everything we needed and felt comfortable. The team had a great relationship with both Tashi and Kush and it helped to make the trek more enjoyable and special for everyone. Bikhalal Tamang, Aayush Tamang and Dhankumar Tamang were our support staff for the trip and were amazing in supporting the team and ensuring our bags were always at our destination before we arrived. Each day the guys greeted us with a smile and “Namaste” as they headed off with all of our bags. They were invaluable and without their hard work it wouldn’t have been possible for us to reach base camp. The trek was challenging at times with some difficult hiking sections and some freezing temperatures but was always enjoyable and ultimately made the trip more rewarding in the end. There were plenty of food options at the tea houses for each of our meals with the dal bhat being the highlight. The equipment checklist provided covered everything we needed and had us prepared for all weather. Overall it was an incredible experience and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. The trip was undoubtedly made even better by the team we had and I can’t thank them enough!

    Angshuman D. January 2026
The Everest Base Camp trek was an incredible experience from start to finish. The scenery was beyond words, the journey was challenging and deeply rewarding, and what truly made it special was the team that supported us every step of the way. After this trek, mountains may never feel the same again. The experience leaves a quiet mark on you, almost spiritual in the way it humbles and reshapes perspective. Kanchan was nothing short of amazing. He felt like a big brother on the trail. Deeply caring, knowledgeable, and always attentive to everyone’s needs, he struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. His fun personality kept spirits high even on the toughest days. BBC was a constant source of reassurance. Every time you called out to him, his cheerful “yes, please!” made you smile instantly. Strong, reliable, and unwavering, he was always there no matter the situation, giving you the confidence to keep moving forward. Roshan brought a very pleasant and calming presence to the trek. Always supportive and kind, he made the long days feel easier simply by being there and encouraging everyone along the way. And Benja, truly a mountain ninja. An incredible photographer, guitar player, cook, baker, and above all, a great friend. He knows the trek inside and out and was wonderful company on the trail. As a slow hiker, I especially appreciated the long conversations and relaxed pace, which made the journey even more meaningful. Everest herself is a shy mountain. She does not reveal herself easily, and only to those who are patient and determined. When she finally does, it feels earned. This trek was unforgettable, and I cannot recommend this team enough. They turned an already spectacular adventure into something truly special.
  • Everest Base Camp Trek

    Harrison S. January 2026
I had an amazing experience on the Everest Base Camp trek, made even better by the incredible leadership throughout. Kanchan ran the trek exceptionally well, with outstanding organisation from start to finish. Everything felt smooth, well planned, and professionally managed, which allowed us to fully enjoy the journey. A huge amount of praise goes to Rosan, who went above and beyond every single day. He was caring, very organised, and often led smaller groups so we could reach destinations faster and at our own pace, which made a big difference to the overall experience. We genuinely would not have made it up Kala Pattar without his encouragement and support. Rosan was incredibly friendly, approachable, and always willing to help, making everyone feel supported and motivated. Both Kanchan and Rosan were fantastic, and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough for an Everest Base Camp trek.

    Robert B. January 2026
Trip was amazing from the first day, very well organised and catered to individuals. Kanchan and his team were very professional but also very friendly and easy going with amazing knowledge of the area and the trek itself. Food was lovely and very cheap, every step of the way is accounted for by the team with changes being made easily based on personal circumstances. I felt very looked after the entire trip and felt comfortable asking the team anything knowing that they would try their best to accommodate. Aside from that, the views, scenery and locals are incredible, it really is like nothing else, a beautiful part of the world that I couldn’t recommend enough. Great value for money
  • Thank you to kanchan and his team.

    Tristan F. January 2026
I just want to come on here to thank Kanchan and his team. They made my trip special. I completed this over the Xmas period and these guys made sure to make it a trip I will never forget. They were always providing extra information and facts as we would walk; look after us when we were sick; facilitate any of our needs and Kanchan even took us rock climbing when we got back to Kathmandu ( on his day off ) . This was already a once in a lifetime time trip, but these guys made it even more remarkable. Thank you everyone 🙌
  • Amazing experience

    Polly C. January 2026
A wonderful trip with fantastic guides. Well organised and coordinated with Kanchan leading us all safely to base camp, along with BBC, Roshan and Benja who were so supportive and helpful. The views are outstanding and the group was awesome- it’s not without challenges from the high altitude, cold temps at night (though we were really lucky with sun during the days) and long days of walking but I felt in safe hands the whole time. Big shout out to the amazing porters without whom the trip couldn’t have happened, they were incredible. Would highly recommend!

  • There is a weight restriction on the flight to and from Lukla of 10kg checked baggage plus 5kg hand luggage. Some items may be left in the hotel in Kathmandu if necessary.
  • Please remove all unnecessary packing before you leave home and ensure you take all plastic off the mountain to be disposed of in Kathmandu.

FAQs

From the start of 2026 onwards, the trip duration will be one day longer, making it 15 nights and 16 days. The 2026 and 2027 departure dates displayed already reflect this duration change.

The additional day has two possible uses – by default, it will allow the descent from Gorak Shep (the settlement below Everest Base Camp) to Lukla to be spread over four shorter days (instead of three long trekking days). However, should bad weather cause subsequent flight cancellations to Lukla, resulting in the loss of a day of your trek, the additional day will be used during your ascent to Everest Base Camp for acclimatisation purposes, and you will then descend back to Lukla in three days.

Default itinerary from 2026 onwards:

  • Days 1-10: unchanged
  • Day 11: Option to climb Kala Patthar (5550m) at sunrise, then descend from Gorak Shep to Pheriche (4240m)
  • Day 12: Descend from Pheriche to Phortse (3835m)
  • Day 13: Hike to Namche for lunch, then on to Monjo village (2810m)
  • Day 14: Final hike to Lukla (2860m)
  • Day 15: Return to Kathmandu
  • Day 16: Trip ends

A mountain flight to Lukla is included on Day 3 of this tour, and back from Lukla on Day 14. Although we schedule departure dates outside of the main monsoon season, weather conditions in any mountain region can be unpredictable. It is not uncommon for flights to and from Lukla to be delayed or cancelled during the trekking season. If your flight to Lukla is cancelled then your host will revert to 'Plan B', as follows:

You will spend an extra night in Kathmandu or Manthali and attempt to fly the next day. If you reach Lukla on Day 4, you will skip a night in Namche Bazaar but otherwise follow the normal itinerary.

Alternatively, it may be possible to fly part-way (to Phaplu), then drive on a dirt road to Kharikhola (6-7 hrs drive), and begin trekking from there. In this case, it is still possible to reach Everest Base Camp in the remaining timeframe by skipping a night in Namche Bazaar. This option is available on Day 3 or Day 4.

There is one further option in the event of flight cancellations to Lukla: to try to charter helicopters for the group (subject to availability). Helicopters are less hindered by poor conditions and can often fly when planes cannot. Anyone taking this option will need to pay roughly $350-500 (USD) extra, per person (the full helicopter cost is more than this, but your cancelled Lukla flight will be refunded and deducted from the total price).

If there are more than two consecutive days of Lukla flight cancellations and it has not been possible to reach Lukla/Kharikhola by the alternative means described above on or before Day 4, then it is no longer feasible to safely reach Everest Base Camp in the time available. Your host will offer an alternative trek in a different region. Usually, the alternative trek offered is the Annapurna Circuit Trek from Chame to Jomsom (via the Thorong La Pass).

Please note that if you spend extra nights in Kathmandu as a result of Lukla flight cancellations, your host will ask you to pay the difference (of around $45 (USD) per room, per night) as the hotel in Kathmandu is more expensive than glamping in Manthali or a night in a teahouse.

The preferred currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Whilst ATMs are available in the main cities, please do not rely on them as they are often out of order and most have a maximum withdrawal limit equivalent to about GBP300.

It's best to bring the bulk of your money with you in cash and exchange it at a bank or at one of the many money changers in Nepal - your guide will help you with this. Most major currencies are accepted, including GBP (Sterling), Euros and US Dollars, however Scottish or Northern Irish currency cannot be changed. Keep your exchange receipts in case you want to change any unused Rupees back into hard currency when you leave Nepal (it is illegal to export Nepalese Rupees as it is a closed currency).

You will need to carry a fairly large amount of cash while trekking for the meals. We advise that you keep this in a waterproof bag and in your day bag along with your passport.

We work with some of the best leaders in the industry. Every single one of them is government licensed and very experienced. In order to ensure the guides high standard of performance, the host provides them with top-notch in-house training that covers, Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, advanced wilderness first aid, hyperbaric chambers, oxygen system, mountain rescue and incident management.

The flight from Lukla to Kathmandu at the end of the trip is usually reliable however if the weather is poor cancellations can happen and there is the chance that you will have to fly the next day. So to play it safe we advise you consider booking an extra night’s accommodation in Kathmandu at the end of the trip.

There is a weight restriction on the flight to and from Lukla of 10kg checked baggage plus 5kg hand luggage. It is not a problem for you to check in 1-2kg more than this as long as you are happy to pay an excess luggage charge (approx. £1 per kg). Some items may be left in the hotel in Kathmandu if necessary.

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 20-25kg of kit so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 12kg per person). You will only need to carry a ‘day pack’ with essentials in (extra layer, snacks, water, suncream, camera etc.

We’ve sourced some great optional activities for you to do in and around Kathmandu should you wish to explore that little bit further. Please discuss these directly with your host who will be able to book them for you.

Cook Like a Local: This short cooking workshop (approx. 3 hours) teaches you how to cook popular Nepali dishes like MoMo and Dal Bhat. You’ll meet your teacher and accompany them shopping, then head to the kitchen and learn to cook alongside them. Price: Pay what you think the workshop is worth!

Shop Local: A 2/3 hour guided exploration of the markets of Kathmandu. Prepare to learn about the vendors that line the crowded narrow alleyways and to witness everything you could ever imagine being sold, haggled and bargained for. A great experience to learn about the melting pot of cultures that exist in Kathmandu. Price: $9-$50pp depending on the group size.

Master the of Arts: Patan Durbar Square is popular for its Fine Arts and this trip will explore the local factories where handicrafts are made. You’ll visit 2-3 factories and learn about traditional processes and see art being produced. Price: $14-$59pp depending on the group size.

Introduction to Shamanism: Shamanism, which is believed to heal many diseases, is not practised widely these days however this trip enables you to meet a practising Guru and learn all about this age-old tradition. You’ll visit a small house to have an introduction, followed by lunch and a drumming session where you’ll learn the importance of rhythm pattern to healing. Price: $90-$150 depending on group size.

Although most teahouses have the option to buy bottled water, we advise against it to reduce the use of plastic in the mountains (this ends up being burnt or in landfill out of sight). You will instead be provided with cold water that needs treating. There is a wide range of products available these days which are more effective than traditional purification tablets - some trekkers like to use UV handheld devices such as a Steripen but other options are available (just check the performance in freezing conditions).

This trip includes a return domestic flight to Lukla. Nepal's mountainous terrain and weather make for challenging flying conditions and sadly more incidents (including fatalities) occur here than in other countries. Since 2013 the EU has banned all Nepalese domestic airlines from flying within EU airspace in order to raise awareness of the poor safety record (although no Nepalese airlines were operating routes within the EU prior to the ban). You should be aware that flying in Nepal is an identified risk: please consider this carefully before booking. Additional information can be found on the Aviation Safety Network entry for Nepal as well as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office travel advice for Nepal

Domestic airlines in Nepal are generally not accredited by any internationally recognised safety audit systems and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of Western nations.

What does MBA do about this?

MBA collaborates with other UK travel companies that arrange for independent air-safety auditors to visit Nepal annually to assess the local airlines. MBA then only uses the carriers that were approved as part of the most recent audit. If any concerns are subsequently raised about an approved airline between audits, we put them on hold until the auditors are satisfied that safety standards are being met.

Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover to the maximum altitude visited on this trip (5550m) as well as for emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

This trip reaches elevations above 4500m, where the risks associated with Altitude Sickness (AMS) are higher, and where more serious conditions like HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) can occur.

Previous high-altitude experience doesn’t guarantee the same reaction every time, but it can be a helpful indicator. It gives you insight into how your body might respond, helps you recognise symptoms early, and prepares you mentally and physically for the demands of high-altitude trekking.

Your guide is trained to manage altitude risk by carefully managing the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and taking action if anyone becomes unwell.

Before travelling, think about your own physical condition and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have underlying health issues. If possible, arriving a day or two early at altitude is a great way to help your body adjust.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

There are three different seasons for trekking in Nepal.

Winter (Dec-Feb): despite being seen as ‘off-season’ this is often the best time to trek in Nepal. The nights can be very cold (down to –20°C), but the trails are quieter and the mountain views are often at their best due to the clear sunny skies.

Pre-monsoon/spring (March-May): temperatures rise significantly in spring and flowers are in full bloom in the lower lands. Although it can still drop below freezing at night, the daytime temperatures tend to sit between 10-15°C.

Post-monsoon/autumn (Sept-Nov): this is the most popular time to trek in Nepal with sunny and mild days generally. It can get cold and windy at higher altitudes; however, skies are usually clear.

Of course, mountain weather is notoriously hard to predict and snow can be expected at any time, so come prepared.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 499kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
